Okay, this all sounds good, and, obviously makes good sense :) I'm just wondering if I should still go with the Survival Laser's pair of safety googles even though you've confirmed that (despite the CE label) they're not certified; Can I be confident that they will noentheless work in protecting me?

Do you nonetheless need to stay a particular distance away from the beam, even in mid-air? In other words, is there any dangers from inherently emitted particles emanating from the beam?

    Need Insight Here Please

Obviously, the dangers here are unequivocally unforgiving...... On relatively matte materials, what is considered a safe distance to be protected from potential reflection injury? And, how problematic is it to look at the beam in mid air without protective eyewear? Or, do you absolutely also...

GAtkins, I'm at a loss as to what you are referring to here - Is it indeed taboo to look at the dot of a 1.5 watt laser indoors without glasses???

Damn! I thought that these were the real deal...... That does suck! Unless I'm mistaken, the OEM's are at least double the price - But well worth it as far as my vision is concerned :)

    Need Insight Here Please

Now that's the common sense answer I had been seeking here :) Thank You! So, is 50% VLT ideal or should I attempt to seek higher? And, anyone have direct experience Survival Laser and these EaglePair saftety glasses? They're supposed to be CE Certified and I don't want to be taking any...

Looks like its only you and I volleying this one back and forth InfinitusEquitas :D Incidentally, I do like your moniker; The name of our band is INFINITE TONE :) Please do believe that I am not being parasitic here in rendering these questions; I've gone through over 100 pages of varied...

Okay, these are OD 4+ which should be fine then; Is it preferable to have more Visible Light Transmission, or, less? If it is indeed more, what is the maximum possible? Lastly, does the VLT have any impact on other safety aspects?

    Need Insight Here Please

Very well :) I'm starting to surmise that if you can actually see the beam then you are not being afforded protection - Is this accurate? As far as these glasses go, is OD4 enough in terms of protection (I'm only qualifying this because, as I stated earlier, I am not an expert by any means but...

    Need Insight Here Please

Hello, and, Thank for the input :) What do you think of these: Eagle Pair® 190-540nm Standard Laser Safety Goggles Are they sufficient for protection, and, will these let me see the beam?

    Need Insight Here Please

Hello to all. Okay, here's the deal. I am not only really impressed, but, also flattered as to how so many members take safety seriously - Double Kudos to those who are advocating the importance of this matter. I essentially have suffered "information overload" now in my quest to obtain a pair...

Can anyone kindly qualify what the average pair of protective glasses is rated at in terms of capability to absorb a beam hit; In other words, will all glasses still prtect you at 1 watt, 2 watts, etc? Or, is this obviously relative due to the amount of "strike" time upon the lens itself rather...

    Opinions / Suggestions

I concur with the aforementioned statement that once 1.5 watts is exceeded, the danger level is palpable. However, even at that wattage, your eyes will be protected if proper eyewear is equipped (or am I mistaken?)

    Opinions / Suggestions

Okay, Thanx :) Are there any glasses that comprehensively cover the entire spectrum? And, are also of good quality?

Is it always better to have specific sets of prtective eyewear for each wavelength or is a multi wavelength pair just as efficient in protection?
  16. L

    Opinions / Suggestions

Thanx for the link for those multiple wavelength safety glasses, they were just what I was looking for!

I too do apologize for having referred to this specific member incorrectly - No ill intent :) I just watched on video on that beast; Nice, but, actually more than I need. I will probably be going with a median power of between 1.3 to 1.8 watts maximum; This unit is going to need be very reliable...

    Opinions / Suggestions

What is most refreshing here is the fact that most are overtly conscientious of safety - Kudos to you all! I do genuinely value my sight, especially given some of the "treats" I get to peruse on a daily basis :eg: However, I will be purchasing new protective goggles with this acquisition because...

So, would it be accurate to state that, as a sort of middle ground reference, at around the range of 445nm both burn capability as well as visibility essentially converge?
  20. L

    Opinions / Suggestions

I've been also trying to determine if there is an "ideal" wavelength for a laser rated above 1 watt, or, is that ultimately dependant upon the objective intended for the system? On other words, is there a better spectrometer reading for burning, long distance visibility, beam focusability, etc...
