I bought one more diode thinking that i would maybe get lucky the second time, and i did. the laser works fine, and does everything i expected. I am very happy to say the least. My current setup is an aixiz heatsink, along with a computer heatsink and fan for extra heatsinking, module assembly...

but would the diode stand up to that kind of power?

will a 445nm run well on 8.25v? i have a spare 8AA holder and when i plugged it into the formula : 12v - 1.25(resistor) - 2.5 (lm317) it gave me 8.25. I saw on some other threads that ~4v is a good voltage, but i wanna hear someone's opinion first

ok so i tried 4 AA batteries this time and it still is very dim, i think im outta luck. Ill try making more lpc or phr builds in the meantime to hone my skills. After that, I may be ready for the 1w

my diode just blew out, and i dont know why... It was heatsinked and everything, but for some reason it just went dim and never went bright again... my setup was an lm317 regulator with 1ohm resistor and a 9volt battery. Any ideas what went wrong?

Ok, so I have been making lasers for a while now, and I think I am ready for the 1w 445nm laser build. I have the components, and am trying to find a suitable host. I think I may go with one of jayrob's flashlights, but give me suggestions anyway.

the problem is that the nerf gun cannot hold that size battery. is it okay if I use 2 AA batteries and try using a 20mw modwerx diode? Those have seemed to be pretty reliable in the past. Thanks again. I am working with an 83 milliamp current and ~ 36 ohms of resistance since watts/volts = amps and and when i found the amps i plugged it into volts/amps = ohms and got around 36. I think my setup would be better with a resistor instead of a pot to avoid the dreaded slip. I think...

i compared it to my 30mw green pen and it is slightly less bright. We are talking about the modwerx 20mw red diode, yes? I calculated the current to be about 83 milliamps. And don't tell me that I'm off-topic when i'm obviously talking about the same things you are.
