how would the mirror method work? is there a diagram for the angles to do a horizontal to vertical flip?

now i know you can polarize light with a type of lens and reflect it back using brewster, but is there a way to "flip" the polarization of the photons so that on their next cycle they ARE polarized properly to flow through the original lens?

has anyone heard of these, does anyone know if/how they work? if I used one as a shutter what would happen when the shutter is closed? could it contain a beam? also what happens to the light that doesnt escape does it reflect back in to the cavity or would it be absorbed as heat?
