Updated the OP, seems the model is an NEC ND-6500A drive, can't find any laser info as of yet but still looking!

I'm not stupid :scowl: I know how Google works and how to search the forums, but with something like this I'm not just going to read some article on how to do it, I'd rather be showed bit-by-bit by someone who's done it before and can tell me the best places to buy and the best tutorials.

Recently the family laptop broke and I've been allowed to open it up and take a look inside to educate myself as I am hoping to take a computing course soon and an IT engineering course. But while searching I found the DVD drive with a sticker stating that it housed a Class 3B laser both visible...

Ok, I might have to go for the 500mW blue - I just won an eBay bid half unintentionally so I'll have to pay out £10 -.- Any other good lasers around the £50-60 budget mark? Not red as I already have a decent red and I'm not a fan of violet.

Recently I put up a thread about looking for a decent laser for between £60-£70, preferably a 532nm green lasers at around 200mW and after a little bit of searching on Lazerer I found their 500mW Blue "Stick" LZSK. This was maximum budget but perfect, maybe not green as I initially wanted but...

And how about burning power? Doesn't colour affect the power of the burn as well (I've got a red 200mW that peaks at 243mW and it takes a while to burn, even when perfectly focused) or is it just mW and mW only?

I just did a little bit more searching, I've found this: 500mW "Stick" 445nm Blue Laser Looks very nice and blue is my favourite colour! Its the same price (a little more but I can afford that). So what do you think?
