    DDL driver

I was wondering, what should i know about this driver so i won't burn any other laser diodes with it? One thing i know for sure right now is that, if i power the driver without the diode and then solder the diode on it, the cap will burn the diode. So i will have to discharge the cap, if i want...

    DDL driver

    Cool! Thank you :D

    DDL driver

Okay, i have sent them an email. So now basically i wait and see :p But what about the diode, it is 13,5 USD with shipping, same as ebay :undecided: Is there any cheaper?

    DDL driver

I suppose it is defective as you said before. I ll send them an email and ask for refund :)

    DDL driver

So do you think that if i ask them, they will give me a new lense? And by the way did the brass collar went all the way in the threads when you put the diode? Mine was off for like 2-3mm. But when i had no diode in the brass collar fitted perfectly.

    DDL driver

I don't mean that the host looks like a flashlight. The ray looked like the light of the flashlight. Completly out of focus and uncolliminated. To conclude, that was the module i was using and i am not satisfied at all :undecided:

    DDL driver

I am not going to buy from o-like again. Using their module made the laser look more like a flashight :p

    DDL driver

The diode is now burned, i didn't know that i had to discharge the cap in case i desoldered the diode :/ The 10ohm@1/8w resistor was cool during operation though :) So now i am looking for a new diode, and a new module. Any suggestions?

    DDL driver

What if i connect the resistor which is 10ohm@1/8w with the other that is 1ohm@1/2w in series? I mean, the resistance won't change that much, but what about the wattage?

    DDL driver

So i am making my first driver for a phr-803t diode. The schematic says that i need to solder a 10ohm resistor but i doesnt say of what wattage. So i went to my local electronics store and bought a 1/2w one. When i got home i found out that the clerk put a 1ohm one instead of a 10ohm. Money...

    My first DIY laser.

I have seen your laser already while browsing the forum. You got quite a monster there, don't you? :lasergun: Today i went and bought all the necessary components for the driver. I also got some shrink tube. It did a pretty good job! So i was wondering if the goggles i bought are any good. I...

    My first DIY laser.

I don't think so. I made 3 attempts with the third one being the most successful. The diode came in contact with the soldering iron for about a sec in each attempt(while heatsinked in the module). So burning it isn't likely in my opinion. I said it took me about an hour because most of the time...

    My first DIY laser.

Update Today, i decided that it was time to salvage the diode from the sled. All went smoothly. :) Then this is where the nightmare began. Soldering the wires onto the pins without them touching the collar brass after i fitted it was not an easy task, but finally i got it right. So, as far as...

    My first DIY laser.

You most likely are right, i am in a rush right now and i want to get it done. But i suppose it is not right. I ll order the driver as soon as i refill my paypal account since i got like 3-4 dollars right now. So how can i use the driver i currently have? And is it ok to use the driver that is...

    My first DIY laser.

I have a multimeter, i don't know if it is suitable thought, i suppose that i ll have to measure the voltage and calculate the current from ohm's law. However my multimiter isn't very sensitive and would read values scaling by 1 for example the smallest value it can read is 1 volt and the next...

    My first DIY laser.

You made my day! But what about soldering a resistor on the driver i currently have?

    My first DIY laser.

Let me rephrase then, "i suppose it is normal for the brass collar to not go all the way into the housing" :p So to clarify the spring thing. Do i put it between the diode and the lens, where the lens is supposed to thread? And why is there so much space in the rest of the module? (housing for...

    My first DIY laser.

So i suppose it is normal for the diode to not go all the way into the housing. pheww :p Hmm, i think i will be able to use the thermal paste as you said. Just adding some with a toothpick would be enough i suppose. Edit: I tried to putting the diode again into the module. Same thing...

    My first DIY laser.

Well, i don't see a pot anywhere on the driver. Unless it is inside the large cylindrical object which has "1R8" writen on it. If i used a resistor or wouldn't i have decreased the current? As far as concerning the module and the diode, i took the ir diode out of the sled(to get the first...

    My first DIY laser.

This is my first post here, i have read the rules but if i get something wrong please notify me. :) So here it goes. A couple of weeks ago i decided to make my own bluray laser. I did my research and found that the "Must have" parts are the diode, the module and the diode driver otherwise you...
