I tried building that laser. It failed, due to the bad driver the host came with. It fried my diode. So if you want to build it, buy yourself a driver as well.

Well you definitely arent going to be having any problems with a short duty cycle, with a heatsink that big! This is quite a unique laser. Nice job. I plan on building a laser using the lpc-826 diode as well.

So I'm interested in building myself a red laser. I would be using an LPC-826 diode, in a Cree Aurora C6 host. I haven't decided yet on what driver I should use. Anyone have any favorite drivers for a laser like this, or some suggestions on which driver I should use?

My advice to you would be never to pot mod ANY laser. It will most likely either result into an immediately killed laser, or a stronger laser that works for a few weeks and then dies. If you want a stronger laser, just buy one. You can get them fairly cheap at websites like dailyshop.com, but...

My dog never chases after the dot from a laser. He doesnt even look at it. It appears as if he doesnt even know it is there, most of the time. Sometimes he just looks at it for a second, then goes back to whatever else he was doing. I guess my dog is not at all curious about lasers :P

Yes, 5mW red lasers are very common, but WATERPROOF ones are not. I guess it'd just be neat, and if someone has never built a laser before, it would be a good way to learn a little bit about them before moving on to more expensive builds. Or, if people just want a safe, legal laser to bring to...
