    How do YOU see 405nm?

~130mW at present - There's no blue at all in mine... pure violet (except on fluorescent surfaces). However the central dot does look like a very bright "pastel" violet with a deep purple "halo". In the dark the color looks more deep and rich than anything I've ever seen. Weird stuff about...

    LPC-815 LOC Harvesting Problems

BTW Solder Blob, the one I used was cutting wheel no. 409. They're very thin and they work great! EDIT: Sorry for the double post...

    Rhodamine 590 Chloride laser dye

LOL. Figures, I "borrowed" it from my wife! Actually, she has a ton of them but it was the only one she would let me have... :cryyy:

    LPC-815 LOC Harvesting Problems

I also used a Dremel. I was trying to be REALLY careful since it was my first LOC extraction. I put a tiny piece of scotch tape over the little hole (worked perfectly), then drilled one notch on each side almost down to the diode. Then used vicegrips and needle-nose on opposite corners until...

    Rhodamine 590 Chloride laser dye

Yesterday I dug out my old vial of Rhodamine 590 Chloride laser dye that I've been hoarding since high school. Back then I wasn't able to finish my dye laser project due to lack of resources. Maybe I'll pick up the project again someday, but for now I made a small batch with some rubbing...

    SF-AW210 build

:thanks: The first time I came across that chart I didn't understand it... if the diode really is consuming 140mA then the output should be 150mW plus.

    SF-AW210 build

Great, in that case I have the perfect way to test it. EDIT - SUCCESS!! Looks like it's doing about 140mA. What would be the output in mW? I'm amazed that the module stays so cool. If I leave it on for a full minute it doesn't even feel above body temp. I guess that means the heatsink is...

    SF-AW210 build

How do I measure the current now that everything is soldered together?

    SF-AW210 build

Thanks... I admit it's a bit ghetto but I learned a lot & (amazingly ) it functions exactly as intended.

    SF-AW210 build

Anyone? Wanna take a guess at the output? Tightly focused with Aixiz plastic lens, ~5 sec @6 inches to light a match? I'm not looking for anything exact, maybe just an educated guess... no pressure :poke:

    SF-AW210 build

Here it is! Several days of drilling, cutting, soldering, gluing, trial-and-error & lots of swearing and it's finally done. Hotlights blue host from Rkcstr v3 SF AW210 405nm 1.5-12v 300mA voltage selectable DC power supply @12v Miscellaneous parts My plan is to eventually get batteries &...

    H o w d i d y o u g e t i n t o l a s e r s ?

For me it was when I was in Junior High back in the late 80's. I think it was partially a combination of Star Wars and MacGyver that started it all. I used to want a lightsaber so bad I used have dreams about them. And I always wanted a laser like the one I saw in the MacGyver intro every week...

1st laser build! Advice/info for shopping list...?

UPDATE! New diode + successful test = HAPPY NEW YEAR! I'm psyched everyone... I just got my new diodes in the mail yesterday (now last year) from Modwerx, a LPC-815 20x and a SF-AW210 405nm. See pics! I started with the 405nm. The diode is running off a voltage selectable DC power supply @...

Basic electronics question regarding DC power supplies/output voltage

Ah, that makes sense... since it's the amount of resistance applied to a voltage that determines the current? Um, I think? :undecided: EDIT: ...and when you measure output voltage with a DMM, the DMM doesn't technically COMPLETE the circuit so there is no resistance hence no current. I think I...

Basic electronics question regarding DC power supplies/output voltage

I'm in the process of building my first laser and I'm trying to learn a little about electronics as I go... I have a bunch of DC adapters from defunct electronics that I no longer use and I'm trying to determine if any of them would be a good power source for a rkcstr driving a 6x BluRay or 20x...

1st laser build! Advice/info for shopping list...?

Well, regardless of how it happened (heat, static, pressing pins, overvoltage) I'm pretty sure it's dead now. I've hooked 2 different DC power sources to the driver and even though they both register between 10-11v on my DMM, the diode will not light back up. The driver still works (@~10v input...

1st laser build! Advice/info for shopping list...?

Ah, I get it now... This is really great info to have guys, I'm sure it will save me some tears down the road. :thanks: Since it's Christmas Eve & all that I guess I should get off here & help the wife cook for tomorrow. Have a great Christmas everyone! EDIT: Oh yeah, and thanks for actually...

Did I kill my PHR-803T diode?

So does that mean there's something wrong with my diode, or is it the rkcstr driver that's the issue? I literally had the pot cranked almost to the very top before I saw any light... the diode turned on like a light bulb at that point but wouldn't go any brighter since I was at the driver...

1st laser build! Advice/info for shopping list...?

Tho you can't really tell from the pic, the diode is countersunk, not flush. If I had taken the board off first It wouldn't have pressed in completely... ;) I was eyeballing a diode press but ran out of $ before I was even able to afford batteries.

1st laser build! Advice/info for shopping list...?

I will definitely be posting a few pics... as soon as I find a decent power source, that is. According to this link: I-Hacked.com Taking Advantage Of Technology - Building a High-Power Blu-Ray Laser I could solder the unused pin to the negative pin but I'm not sure what the benefit...
