1.6W Peak 445nm SS 18650 Jayrob host W/'custom 'Hot' option' heatsink on driver

Just finished my 445 build. Don't know how many mW it is throwing out, but it is an absolute cannon. My beam is actually very tight with the EZfocus adapter and the 405-G-1 glass. Blows through black balloons much, much faster than my 532, and that's all that really matters. I wonder if the...

Oh great. Now I'm going to want one of those too.

1.6W Peak 445nm SS 18650 Jayrob host W/'custom 'Hot' option' heatsink on driver

There's the additional safety feature involved in a DIY kit, ie: the likelihood that what I build won't even work! ;) In all seriousness, I'm one of the multi-point security guys. My lasers are in one safe, my batteries in another. I keep my laser in a static bag, I use the keylock, close...

1.6W Peak 445nm SS 18650 Jayrob host W/'custom 'Hot' option' heatsink on driver

Morgan-- Your post is dead on, thank you. Regarding goggles, I wouldn't think of touching it without them. I now have 2 sets that cover 445nm, and am constantly looking for the highest OD I can find. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. The thing that's caused me to want to...

1.6W Peak 445nm SS 18650 Jayrob host W/'custom 'Hot' option' heatsink on driver

Thanks for the fast feedback. I wish there was an LPF for every topic I'm interested in--learning this fast in a Non-Smack-Down environment is very nice. :) Thank you!

1.6W Peak 445nm SS 18650 Jayrob host W/'custom 'Hot' option' heatsink on driver

Definitely does. I'm an overthinker-in-advance, so my quest to conceptualize 100% of the process before the first part arrives will inevitably drive me nuts. :) BTW: What about an IR filter? How much of your 1.6W do you suppose is IR?

1.6W Peak 445nm SS 18650 Jayrob host W/'custom 'Hot' option' heatsink on driver

Just bought the A130 445nm diode from modwerx. I hope that's what I need. If not, I got one for sale..... Now whenever Jayrob wanders out of the woods, I can buy the rest of the kit. ;) BTW: What else did you use that did NOT come from Jay?

1.6W Peak 445nm SS 18650 Jayrob host W/'custom 'Hot' option' heatsink on driver

The hot kit seems like a step in the right direction for me. I basically want to build precisely what you have. I don't have a vise though, but it seems to me the hot kit prevents the step requiring the vise...

1.6W Peak 445nm SS 18650 Jayrob host W/'custom 'Hot' option' heatsink on driver

My eyes hurt just from looking at the pictures. Warn us to put on our safety goggles! Due to the WL mess, I'd like this to be my first build attempt. Well, I really don't WANT to build one, I'd rather give someone money for one. However, I'm going to study this thread and contact the key...

    Beam quality: PPL vs. RPL

I've recently acquired both a 150mW PPL 532nm and a 450mW RPL 532nm. Upon firing up the RPL, however, I noticed that the beam is larger, fuzzier, and less focused than that of the PPL. I haven't done exhaustive testing, but I observed the following: Wider visual beam while wearing goggles...

    American Based Laser Pointer Companies

I bought the Optotronics 150mW (rated 158) from Jack a couple weeks ago. It is amazing, almost as good as his customer service. I've also purchased a 450mW RPL, a 3X Beam Expander, and a big pile of prisms and other accessories from him. I've worked with several of his competitors, but find...

Re: Lasers and aircraft You can doubt whatever you want, it doesn't change the facts. Go do a few experiments, and maybe also ask around regarding things like oh, fog machines. Never seen one block out a laser before, but maybe that's just a coastal US thing since most of my houses are in VA...

Re: Lasers and aircraft Oh how I wish I was somewhere like that (up to 18,000MSL that is, then the sky is classified by the FAA and isn't G anymore). But I'll stick with my ocean views (yay!) and congested airspace (boo!).

Re: Lasers and aircraft I'm not sure what you're trying to prove. Yes, true. A 100mW red laser pointed at a 747 cruising at 47,000 feet will be rendered irrelevant. However, shine a high powered RPL 532nm laser and get a different result. Also no offense, but not all clouds are way up high...

Re: Lasers and aircraft I'm in the San Diego area, I'm a laser owner, and I'm a GA pilot out of MYF. I like the "don't do it" approach. People who think they can look up and make sure there aren't any planes around don't know much about aviation. Planes can be at altitudes requiring special...

FS: Melles Griot 10X Beam Expander

Is your RPL-450 the same as the Optotronics Opto450 RPL laser? Also, where did you get the C-mount adapter? I'm trying to decide on a brand/model of 532nm portable based on what will work with different beam expanders. Jack says the Opto450 RPL works with their 3x, but I haven't yet gotten a...
