    High power diode laser driver

Interesting perspective. (though I wouldn't count CB as there's a 4W emissions limit there, unless you want to break those rules) 73, KJ6MXY

    High power diode laser driver

How long until you might have these ready to sell?

    High power diode laser driver

Any ideas on where to start? I'm interested in how to build something like this as well.

Just begging for another lawsuit (Wicked)

This kind of thing makes me worry for the future of lasers. Its one thing if powerful lasers are restricted to hobbyists that know what they are doing, but its another thing entirely to market powerful lasers to kids.

Yet another reason Laserglow is awesome

It wasn't my intention to be rude or anything, just make a small comment about how karma on reddit is often inflated beyond what it really should be.

Yet another reason Laserglow is awesome

Its only karma, not like real money or anything.

Yet another reason Laserglow is awesome

I saw this on reddit, thought it might be appreciated here: Original post: I had a special request when I ordered my green laser, I thought they forgot... : funny

    Well, I feel stupid

That's what I plan to do after the protoboard and after I get a new diode to replace the one I murdered.

    Well, I feel stupid

Ok, so that makes sense. As for the protoboard, I am planning on doing that as soon as I can stop being lazy and get the board and plan it out. Also, I can solder, and do so on a regular basis. You can't see it in the picture, but right out of view is my Hako 936. I was running it at about...

    Well, I feel stupid

I have somehow managed to LED my new 445nm diode within about thirty minutes of receiving it. My best guess as to the cause is forgetting to short the capacitor before connecting the diode. However, I calculated the total stored energy of the cap to be only 0.00025 Joules, and I don't think that...

    battery and regulator supply question

From my experience, 9 volt batteries both supply too much voltage while at the same time not supplying enough current. As to the lithium-ion batteries, the most common choice is an 18650 battery, which is actually a big wider and taller than a AA battery. I've never seen them at a radio shack...

    Why not Button cells?

It's because many button cell batteries can't supply the current needed to power anything stronger than a 5mw pointer. Also, a laser would them dry very fast, as button cells don't have a good watt-hour to size ratio.

Question about a HeNe found at flea market

Sadly, it does seem to rattle around a bit, like there is a loose part in there or something. Even if it doesn't work though, it would make a pretty nice club.

Question about a HeNe found at flea market

First of all, it didn't come with a power supply. Second, it dooesn't say <10 mw, it says 10 mw. Lastly, I had already looked at that link, and I can't find any specific data on the voltage or current of the head. Also, it has a sticker which says engineering sample on the side, so it may be...

Question about a HeNe found at flea market

While I was at the flea market today, I ran across a Spectra Physics 105-1 10 mw laser head for $7. I figured it was probably broken, but for that price, it was too good a deal to pass up. Anyone have any specs or info on this laser and how to test it?

    I just got a fluke 179, it works great. Here's a picture:

    Hi all

Well, I'm already running it at 650mA, so what would "pushing it" be defined as?

    Hi all

I actually have both an esd mat and braclet, but they aren't in the picture. As for the heatsink, I'm planning on drilling a hole through it for the laser, but at this point, I'm not sure I need it, as with 2 minutes of constant operation, the module temp only raises by about 5 degrees centigrade.
