REVIEW: Rayfoss 30mw 532nm "Waterproof" Torch

Quite bright...no issues with visibility at all. My neighbors are probably wondering what I'm up to...lol.

Any particular reason for going driverless?

    I'll share my red build

...and voila...we have the first generation of the future Star Trek type-II assault phaser. Pill bottles...lol...I bet Gene Roddenberry never thought of THAT!

REVIEW: Rayfoss 30mw 532nm "Waterproof" Torch

So, this being the first real laser that I bought, I figured I would do a brief review of the product. I was looking for a moderately powered green laser on evilBay and came across Rayfoss' products. I was hesitant at first due to the fact it was coming from who knows where in China, but the...

    Man I've been busy...

I'm actually counting on the fact that any kind of change in the environment will cause a change in resistance. Instead of just waiting for something solid to "break" the beam, we'll be able to tell if something which causes a change to the environment (the way we "track" ghosts) passes through...

    Man I've been busy...

My personal focus is always on new EVP techniques, but our group is also experimenting with my new found love of lasers and different ways we can use them to detect anomalies...hence the photocell tripwire and diffraction grid. Another experiment I'm working on with 5mw modules is to cover the...

    Man I've been busy...

So, I finally got my first laser going...an LPC-815 (Aixiz glass) with a rkcstr driver on max. That should be giving me right around 300mw. When I get some extra cash, I'm going to get the Meredith glass mod. I'm putting it in a Star Trek TNG phaser, so that's the next purchase. Next, I...

    LM317 Question...no, a different one!

Ok, so I have a 6 volt supply at the moment...4xAA. I'm going to try a single 9 volt, and if still no go two 9s hooked in parallell.

    LM317 Question...no, a different one!

So I tried this circuit last night (sans diodes as suggested) and came up with somewhere right around 3.5 output volts, as measured by my volt meter. I put this on the 405nm and 650nm modules I have (both sealed with their own drivers), and both were extremely dim. These modules are supposed...

    LM317 Question...no, a different one!

    It's as simple as Ohm's law? Damn...had I known that...lol.

    LM317 Question...no, a different one!

Lesson learned, don't try to hook up multiple 5mw diodes with their own drivers off of a single power supply. I saw a puff of smoke from the board and burned out a nice little green number the other day :cryyy:. So, I am trying to build a constant regulated voltage of 3.2 volts out using an...

Please help me troubleshoot my first build...

Well, after some testing last night, I'm fairly certain I killed the diode. It looks fine upon visual inspection, but with 9 volts going in and the driver turned up, it's still only an LED at best...doh! It must have happened when I was trying to get it out of the heatsink. I'm only going to...

Please help me troubleshoot my first build...

My first laser building attempt does not appear to be working all too well. I'll provide the details, so far, and can someone help me with some troubleshooting? The problem I'm experiencing is that I'm not getting much output. Here's my setup... - rkcstr driver configured for full range and...

finding the open can in a 20x burner

Welcome to the club! I believe I did the same...but the damn thing just was not coming out using my pliers and wire cutters. I only buy removed diodes or pre-installed from now on!

Yep, I got some stuff from AixiZ waiting for me in my mailbox today!

Looking at snagging this one for the right price...thoughts?

I know most people on here are not fans of Ebay, but this a US-based seller with an excellent reputation. If I can get this for the right price, what do y'all think? GLMC-100 DPSS 532nm Green Laser Lab Diode Module : NEW! - eBay (item 260485197489 end time Oct-08-09 21:00:22 PDT)

No, but now that you mention it... j/k

How hard would it be to do this?

Damn, that is cheap, but it wouldn't have the same gratification as doing it myself :). Being that it's coming from overseas though, I have some concern about safety. 20-30 mW...I thought anything over 5 is potentially hazardous. Also, I would hope that it has an IR filter, but I doubt I can...

How hard would it be to do this?

First of all, damn you all for getting me into this addictive hobby...like I don't have enough things to spend my money on already! Second, I have a question. I'm thinking about building very basic and limited laser show for my band...nothing that actually syncs to the music...just a couple of...

    Building a low-power, multi-wavelength, laser array?

There's something I hadn't thought about! I don't know if I could get beam tight enough, though. I'm looking at covering distances across rooms of all sizes, as well as down long hallways. A place we investigated last weekend was 109,000 sf...big! So, unless I spaced the LEDs far apart...
