    Blu ray at 24mA

Alright, I had the pot between the lm317 set at 53 ohms (got 52 ohms on good multimeter) and it still burned dark plastic. The one ohm resistor is in series with the laser diode. It was reading 35mV with a good DMM(not 24mV like my DMM reads), but as soon as I took the reading, the laser dimmed...

    Blu ray at 24mA

Im using a 1ohm resistor with a DLL driver to get the reading. Im going to verify it today with a different DMM, mine acts up sometimes.

    Blu ray at 24mA

Yea, just tried to burn a piece of dark plastic, and to my surprise it did! Measuring 24mA but no way to measure the output of the laser, but it has to be >5mA.

    Blu ray at 24mA

I have a blu ray running at 24mA, so that should be <5mW correct? Im just wondering if the "safe laser" is always <5mW, or if it is different for different colors. It also still seems VERY bright when hitting fluorescent objects. Tried searching but didnt come up with much on if blu...

    Blu ray died....again

Oh, I know. Im not discouraged, just dont have the time to build one, and I would have to get rid of it next month anyway. My red LPC has been running good at 400mA! I think that was around 200mW, correct?

    Blu ray died....again

Yup, I shorted the cap and all that. And I left the iron on a pin for maybe a second-second and a half. And I got the pins right too, it did work for a little bit. I'm just gunna guess that it was probably a bad connection that I made, and try to do better next time. Thanks for all the help! :D...

    Blu ray died....again

The driver i'm using is the one from this site. Im reading it from a 1ohm resistor that is on the test load with the 6 diodes. And i'm using a 9v battery as the power supply. Could I just be really unlucky with the diodes?

    Blu ray died....again

Alright, so i'm on my 4th PHR and dont know what i'm doing wrong. I have it running off a lm317 driver, set at, and tested at 93mA. Each one died after about 3-5 minutes of use. The driver is fine, and i'm using it to run a red diodes with no problem. Is there anything I need to know about the...

Opera tutorials, try and tell me

Yes. Im an Opera fan, but I understand that alot of people dont use their browser the same way I do. Try it, and see if you like it. ;)

    Transfer Data with Lasers?

I think that the ground may just be to the 9v battery ground. HIs site has a couple of things that are flip floped like that tho, so I'm also thinking that it may just be a mistake on his part, and pins 4 and 5 are swapped in his schematic. Honestly, im pretty suprised now that I look back that...

    Find of the day #4

The cameras like that where the only circuits are the charging ones are nice. Use one to run a Nixie tube that I have, and it works really well. If you ever happen to find a older (1990ish) camcorder, it may be something you want to look into. Im still trying to find one, without much luck at...

    Transfer Data with Lasers?

I actually did something like this a couple years ago. Used this link as the main source of how to set it up, and I sent stuff. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be to hard to throw something together in C++ to get this to send files.

Opera tutorials, try and tell me

Honestly, I love Opera. I used to use Firefox, but once a friend told me to try Opera, I haven't gone back. It's faster, has better tabs, and the speed dial is amazing. I have a lot of sites on their, that with my browsing habits, would often forget to check for updates, new comics, videos, and...

    Lasers in the military?

All right, thanks for all the info! Guess I'm just gunna have to deal with it. Shouldn't be too hard, since I hear that Integrated Avionics have 12 hour days regularly, and still get to work with electronics. :D Again, thanks for all the info.

    Lasers in the military?

I have, but no real idea on whether or not it would be allowed, and said I would have to find out at my first duty base. Well, if no one knows, I guess I'll just have to find out when I get there. Don't see it being to big of a problem though.

    Laser time machine

Video Saw this on TV a while ago, and thought it was pretty cool. Anyone know what power lasers he would need to achieve "time travel"? Seems like many of the most powerful lasers they have today! Who knows, in 20 years we could be taking apart media burners to make time machines. :D

    Lasers in the military?

As I am joining the Air Force, and leaving for basic in November, I'm curious if anyone one knows if there are any laws regarding high powered lasers in the dorms. I know that there shouldn't be any if I get off base housing, but that is extremely unlikely for my first 6 years. :( Anyone in the...

    Broken

I bought this laser module and driver for my first blu ray laser. I had already made a dvd burner one, but wanted to make a blu ray laser next. Came in the mail in great time, followed the instruction sheet perfectly, went to turn on the laser and a faint purplish glow. Cool I thought and I...
