    CNI GB 6th round!

Agreed! I'd much rather wait and get a good unit than rush it and get something that is not so good. Thank you again Glen for battling on our behalf!

Best place to buy a green laser in the UK ??

    ^^ What he said.

Does that mean mine is on the way too?

Do it Yourself Complete Green DPSS with O-like Crystals

Thank you for sharing. Very thorough, and well documented! Impressive!

seoguy - same here. Will try to post some more data/pics here soon, but I've been up to my eyeballs recently, so not sure exactly when.

Which is better? Jasper Curve or the Green laser from Sky lasers?

^^ Thats good advice I think chessmaster, I think they say that laser is good for astronomy either because the beam is well centered along the host (good for use as an artificial guide-star I believe) and/or since it requires no extra legal liability when it is used by pros in public. If you...

Which is better? Jasper Curve or the Green laser from Sky lasers?

Yeah, I see your problem now. You should wait and see what others have to say... I'm not sure I'd describe a <5mw beam as bright, but in terms of an indoor pointer it would be fine. I think the beam might be a little disappointing at night though, at least on dry nights and especially where...

Intending to buy a green laser

Not necessarily omri... if the style matters to you, it might be better, or perhaps you'd prefer one with a safety feature like a key-lock. Or if you plan on using it for long periods of time it would probably be worth it for the better heat sinks that torch style designs offer, but if you want...

Intending to buy a green laser

It's not really much of an issue at those power levels. Listen to Hallucynogenyc, he knows what he's talking about. I've had a few from DX (including the true 50 and a few true 5's), and they were all over spec (I tested with a laser power meter).

Which is better? Jasper Curve or the Green laser from Sky lasers?

It has to be said, these are probably the exact same pens they are selling on DX, except that have slightly better quality control and they charge more... I'd rather spend my money at DX, and have 3 or 4 pointers... Incidentally, you can buy AAA lithiums which will not loose much power in the...

Which is better? Jasper Curve or the Green laser from Sky lasers?

Grix has a good point about night vision... day-vision too if you accidentally drop it and get a beam hit in the eye! If it's only for star pointing than anywhere from 10-50mw of 532nm would be fine. On dry nights you might want the higher end of this range, as the beam visibility goes down as...

Looking for big hosts with some power!

Just a stab in the dark (pun not intended lol), but is it a copper heatsink (for lasers)? :D Either that or a TEC... I don't suppose anyone could also help choosing the optics for this diode/build? What options/sources are there for multi-mode diode optics apart from hercs (not an option for...

Thanks Robert. Both pens in the last set of pics were putting out about 20mw when I got them. After the mods pen 1 was 62mW inc. IR @ 304mA and pen 3 was 26mW inc. IR @ 314mA

I just checked out pyro's host, and that looks perfect... I'm sold! :)

any tips on photographing beam shots?

I agree with all of the above advice. I'd also suggest "bracketing" heavily, which is taking your first shot of the scene with the exposure that your camera's metering system recommends, and then, keeping everything else the same, take more shots using longer and shorter shutter speeds if you...

Looking for big hosts with some power!

Do you mean the 622nm diode? That's a crazy diode! Like you say though, we had to decide against it and take the next one up because of the cooling required. I don't suppose anyone could explain what MM means to us in terms of performance/beam quality? What would be the main difference between...

I don't really keep in touch with p&s cameras, but you usually can't go to far wrong if you stick to the big camera makers like Canon, and look for the features you would like. This site has some great tools for comparing cameras/features (check under the "buying guide" tab) and would be my...

Looking for big hosts with some power!

Yeah, saw those diodes ZRTMWA, thanks They are from the same source, so same specs and all the problems that go with them. The 622nm operates at 5 degrees C, has a typical operating current of 1250mA, and a threshold of 750mA (the diode I mentioned above). The specs can be found here...
