Hey guys, So I just finished making my first laser. It's a bluray in a dorcy, 145mA driver. Now I have a question... Can I use the same host and build for a red laser? I would be using a LG 22x DVD burner diode. If I can do this, what is acceptable current for it? I've heard 300-400mA is good...

Hey guys, Finally finished my DIY blu-ray laser. It followed the FAQs given here and one on iHacked (using the DarkHorse Full-body heatsink in a Dorcy).  Took me 2 tries (wasn't gentle enough on my first attempt) but its done, and it was worth it. Pics...

Wow, 160 would be a bit more than i was expecting, I'll stick with ~145 then I think,  ;D .  And I was looking at those lenses, but I don't want anything TOO dangerous for now...  I still haven't bought any goggles (maybe with my next paycheck)...  It'd be a shame to have an awesome high power...

Cost and power of the laser aside..... "To locate individual mosquitoes, light from the flashlights hits the tank across the room, creating tiny mosquito silhouettes on reflective material behind it. The zoom lens picks up the shadows and feeds the data to the computer, which controls the laser...

Its not full body, its like a cm (give or take a few mm)... Its just the standard DarkHorse one. Like, do I want it more towards the front of the diode, more towards the back, or should I just try to center it over it as best I can? Thanks -Shammi

Hey, So, I'm slowly piecing together my first DIY laser, and it's in a dorcy. When I go to put the heat sink on the aixiz module, does it matter how far up it is? Like, should it be almost even with the focus grip, or can it be a bit farther back since I have fat fingers? Thanks, -Shammi

See, that's what I was thinking too, but at the same time it's also possible that his camera can't really pick it up, and that they do work. Another question - what's stopping the IR LED from harming other peoples' vision? I assume it's IR in the safe range? Thanks -Shammi

My CR123A batteries say they're only 3v... are they lying to me? What gives? o_O -Shammi

Just tried a bunch of readings around that area... none gave me any voltage.

I just snagged a PHR sled for 10.50... I think I'll tinker with the red diode first on a home-made driver, but I've also already purchased materials for a blu ray dorcy, so we'll see how that turns out. Hoping to get materials in this week.
