@Murudai the pattern is generated with a free tool (see above) and printed full size to an A4 sheet. this is then photographed, so theoretically, the grating should be about the right size on the film. i just hope the exposures are about right :) wouldn't 5000 dpi be about 5µm details? 0.0254m...

but a whole laserdisc player contains much more: good mirrors wir adjustable mounts, pol-cube, lenses , this xy unit and a nice HeNe tube+driver ^^ they are dirtcheap on ebay, might get one for 10-20€ and i dont have a HeNe laser jet, i want one :D cant beat that price. and the disassembling...

lower scanning rate equals more movement ^^ happend to me too. you have to tweak the settings. to high scanrates, and you will only get circles. too low scanrate, and you will get circles again, because of the DC filtering. if an audiochannel stays too long on a high position, the DC coupling...

well, if you put the aperture further away from the optics, it will work better. as you say you build lab style lasers, this is possible. but with a pointer and an aperture directly after the lens, this wouldn't work at all

sorry, i know that, but i exaggerated the whole thing for simplicitiys sake. also it is hard to draw a diagram where the cones of light only differ a few % EDIT: changed the text in the original post to be more specific

also, if you have an old/broken videocamera/webcam/photocamera, right before the sensor is an IR filter you could harvest. they block about 85%, not the best, but the cheapest if you have something old

so here we go: to understand this, you have to understand that different wavelengths refract differntly. as in IR light doesn't get bent as much as Green light, when passing through glass. if you collimate your green laser, the emitted IR isn't collimated it you try to put an aperture in...

an aperture will NOT block ir, or something. the problem lies within the differnt focussing of different wavelengths! im gonna draw a quick graph to explain the problem, in a minute
