Thanks a lot 666DAN. The light spectrum of the Sanyo LD would fit. The lower nominal operating current of the Sanyo would also explain it's short life. The LD had been operated with currents up top 120mA. But the output powers are very different, 105mW for the Sharp and 60 mW for the Sanyo...

All pn / np semiconductor junctions generate a voltage when exposed to light. In order to use a glass diode as temperature sensor you would need to isolate it from the light. The 1N4002 did produce roughly 280mV when irradiated with 80-100mw/cm2 at 405nm, so the photo voltage is substantial...

Sorry i did not reply earlier.  It's a DCG mixture without sensitizer because it's not needed at all with 405nm. The components for the mixture were: 2g gelatine, 1.7ml 5% Ammoniumdichromate (85mg), 16.5ml H20. The sensitivity was around 2mJ, so the exposure times were a few seconds. You can...
