What do you guys think about coiling the solder around the pin and the wire beforehand so they stay in place and then lightly melting parts of the solder until it's all done? In my experience coiled solder doesn't transfer as much heat as straight solder.

You have a good point there. Rigging up the optics would be a lot easier than having to do vector calculus every time you want to point the thing in a different direction ;D. There are already a ton of optics in dvd burners anyway, I think it could be done... but I guess that belongs on another...

I'm using Daedal's driver for all my laser stuff so far. Seeing as this new LG diode takes a lot of power given DanQ's nice data, what modifications to that driver do you guys think might be appropriate to get that diode to reach its full potential, or is the driver still adequate for this...

Well I dripped a whole lot of solder onto the back of the diode so that has to be causing a short. I tried hooking it up and it didn't do anything so I think it's fried. It has to be.
