    Getting used to laser brightness?

When I first got my DX50 a long while ago, it seemed blindingly bright when I first put the batteries in and turned it on. I had to squint to look at the dot. Now it doesn't seem so blindingly bright to me anymore. Anyone else notice this?

Uncollimated DVD laser - got it for FREE!

Today, I picked up a free broken DVD burner, took it apart, guessed which diode was the 650nm one, and painstakingly soldered it to my rckstr driver board. I now have a free laser diode to replace the old one I managed to overcurrent. It's powered by a 9v battery (right now I'm using a 7.2v...

Using any fluorescent material to build a laser?

Is it possible to use any fluorescent material to build a laser? I have some materials which create large amounts of green light when ultraviolet light is applied - I'm thinking that if I could find a very powerful UV strobe and some precision optics, I could build a laser. Any thoughts on this?

    Killed my red diode! NOOOOOOOOOOO

:'( My 650nm <200mW Sony diode was killed in an accident... the current may have been set wrong, or I may have shorted something, or the capacitors were still charged. I used a rckstr microdrive driver... I used 7.2v to test it, could that be the cause? It now lases an oblong shape with a long...

    Laser Healing...?

I tried using my 50mW greenie on an injury of mine. What I did was apply the laser all over the injury at a distance of about <1cm. It seems to have healed fast, compared to a similar (but smaller) injury on my hand, which has a noticeable scar. The injury has almost no traces, only a slightly...

    Fake decoy

I want to make a decoy that looks like a DX greenie and weighs like a DX greenie but isn't actually a laser at all. My idea is to take a similar diameter pen, put some metal objects inside, use the bottom half of an aixiz module I had lying around to be the 'aperture', and cover it in black...

Get Goggles. Stay Safe. Sponsered by masstercard.

A brand new DX 200: $43.65. CR2 batteries: $4.28. Certified Safety Goggles: ~$100. Knowing your eyes will be safe: Priceless. For everything else, there's Masstercard. (lol)

    Video goggles

The ultimate laser safety goggles: LCD Video goggles, with cameras! Doesn't change the color of the environment, doesn't reduce beam visibility (too much at least) and is 100% safe as long as the power is not too high, and the goggles cover your eyes completely. What do you think, is this...

Can I run the MicroDrive on a 6v lantern battery?

Can I run rckstr's MicroDrive on a 6v lantern battery? Are there any problems with doing this?

Just wondering if 50mW of green hitting a dark gray surface could be dangerous to my cats.

    ~100mW 650nm DIY DVD 'labby'

Just made my first DIY >5mW laser. :) It's 'labby' style, I don't have a casing for it yet. I used an Aixiz module, adjustable rckstr MicroDrive driver, and a HighTechDealz 650nm 16x Sony DVD diode, rated to go to 245mW. I'm not entirely sure if the MicroDrive is working properly, my new...

    DX True 50mW

Hi everyone I just received my DX True 50. My first working laser above 5mW. Hasn't mode hopped! It's so cool and everything but I have some questions. At night I can see that the beam isn't straight, it's goes a little sideways from where I point it. Is this normal? There is a speckled...

Can I test LDs with a diode tester?

Hi to everyone at LPF! I was wondering if I could test a 16x DVD burner diode with the diode tester function on my crappy Nexxtech digital multimeter. I mean, it's a diode, right? When I use the diode tester on LEDs, they glow dimly and it gives me a forward voltage reading (I think...) So...

Noob question  - Need help building laser.

Hi everyone, As you can see I am new to these forums. I have some experience with lasers and electronics, so I'm not going to burn my eyes out or shine lasers at airplanes or anything. I am planning on building a red burning laser but I need a little help. Things I have obtained: I have a...
