    DDL Driver Current Question

    Ah, okay. Thanks, guys.

Did I screw up my lens?

When I first purchased an empty aixiz housing for my 650nm laser build, the acrylic lens that came with it had a sizable scratch on the front. I then decided to purchase a glass lens (non-coated) from aixiz on Ebay. When I got the glass lens, I screwed it into the lens cap from the housing...

    Critique my first 650nm build?

Hey everybody. I'm new to this whole thing and this is my very first build, ever. I decided to get into this whole thing when I read an article talking about how the lasers inside DVD burners were class 3b lasers. I thought it would be a small, fun project to do. So, I'm basically wondering...

    DDL Driver Current Question

So you're talking about having a fixed resistor in parallel with the POT apart from the other fixed resistor already there to set a maximum current? I'm sorry, I'm not exactly an electrical major. :cryyy: And yeah, I kinda wanted to be able to regulate the current between ~150-300mA for...

    DDL Driver Current Question

So if I use a lower value 1/4W pot such as 50 ohms, it will be less likely to burn out, right?

    DDL Driver Current Question

Yeah, I think it's open. I don't understand how it would fry that easily, since it's a 1/4 watt POT and I've never gone over 300mA on this particular circuit. I ramped up ludicrous current up to 3 amps on a previous prototype circuit I built, and the same exact potentiometer from the same...

    Is uncollimated laser light dangerous?

I'm new to this whole thing (still not done with my first build yet), and I don't plan on losing my eyesight anytime soon. I take DMM readings with the actual laser diode on, because my test load isn't really all that accurate. Wearing laser goggles completely blocks out the uncollimated...

    DDL Driver Current Question

Ah, thanks. I checked, and it was the POT. It jumps down to ~nothing from ~3.2 ohms if you so much as touch it. I didn't have any lower value POTS at the time, and I figured 200 ohms would be fine. :p

    DDL Driver Current Question

I'm new to building lasers, and this is my very first build. I'm making a small laser burner out of a diode I pulled out of an old, broken 16x DVD burner. So I constructed my driver and test load according to the instructions on this site, which I found extremely helpful. The only way my...
