Strange green light from IR diode...

I have a 960nm c-mount that gives a faint blue light as well as the IR. This is perhaps due to traces of impurities in the diode allowing the generation of some microwatts of non-laser visible light.

My another IR portable build (1W, 1x18650)

Nice Job !!! A great looking small IR laser. The indicator light is a neat feature. Hmmm ... I can't rep you yet, either ... Get you next time.

First GGW 6X build - success! [Heavy pictures]

Definitely good use of the host and the 18650 should have a great runtime. Just found another one of these hosts behind a beer stein on a bookshelf ...

First GGW 6X build - success! [Heavy pictures]

This build certainly came out well! Nice pics and a video. I'm glad that it worked out perfectly for you. Nice to have a 6x, and it's quite blue as well. Your driver looks pro ... :gj:

100mW bluray pen - a gift for Bill!

Yeah, I finally made it here. Long workday, dinner, now finally the computer, and my ISP has cured the service problems that were bedeviling my neighborhood. I like this laser, and you are correct, I don't have a 2 x AAA boost driver bluray pen. Closest I can come is a 2 x 10440 PHR with 1117...

    Is this a good multi-meter?

The DMM that you have linked to is a good basic DMM. Get some decent leads for it. This meter measures AC and DC volts, DC current, Ohms, has continuity check, diode check (not for LDs) and transistor gain (Hfe). The manual may be in Chinese, but there is a link for an English one.

My Do It Yourself Laser power meter - picture heavy PART1

Nice work on Part I !!! I like the pro looking PCB work, really makes for a great looking project. Looking forward to part II ...

Is it possible to make a laser even more awesome?

Welcome to the forum. Why do you need a near-IR laser? This would probably be OK for pointing at night, using night vision goggles. Is this what you need to do? A power of 50mW is really too low for burning. If you want a burning laser, get a red dilda from rayfoss or o-like, DX has this as...

    220mw O-Like Laser Torch

I have a 2W 808nm handheld. It will light a candle. 220mW is nowhere near enough. You realize that this is Class IV power and goggles will be required, both for yourself, and anyone with you. A lighter would be a safer, easier, and far cheaper choice ...

    What drivers do I need?

You will need to refer to the specs provided b y the seller. If you got no specs, a 1W should be able to take 1200mA, some need more. You can test cheaply with a DX 1050mA or 1400mA regulator disk for flashlight. (AMC7135 type) You will need to heatsink the diode well. For 9mm, you can get a...

    GITD Paint at Home Depot

Dave, the paint was $10.00, the coverage is not listed on the can, or the little box the can was in. Two coats are recommended. It looks like enough to paint two coats onto a 5 sq. ft. non-absorbing surface. The can contents is 207ml.

    Budget Gadgets Scammed Me.

How did you pay? Was it Paypal? Can you still dispute the transaction, or is it too late? You may well be getting a runaround from them designed to make you give up on getting a refund or replacement. At worst, you have a host, and will need to buy an LPC-815 diode and a rkcstr driver in order...

    GITD Paint at Home Depot

I was at HD today to get some paint. On my way back down the paint aisle, I saw the word "GLOW" out of the corner of my eye. Sure enough, it was a small tin of Rust-Oleum Glow In The Dark latex paint. I bought it and brought it home to quickly try out. It is water based (latex) so cleanup is...

    What's in your camera bag?

@Traveller Iusually use the D200 for any pics I post to the forum. I shoot jpegs and use VSO Image Resizer to shrink them down to 800x600 or 640x480 for the forum. I got the D100 new when it came out. I'm looking to get a D300s very soon.

any one ever made their own aixiz module?

You of course need a lathe and some tooling to do this work. It can easily be done, but why duplicate the aixiz housing? Machine a laser head that has threads for a lens nut (you can make the lens nut, too) and a pocket to press the diode into. Then, machine a battery compartment to fit and you...

New red laser bought locally in South Korea

To measure laser power, you need an LPM. There is no formula or substitute. Diodes of the same type and even from the same run vary significantly from each other.
