How can I understand Light as a Wave?

That's why I said it didn't make sense. :na: This is what I assumed. It's just that in most explanations I hear, people make it sound as though the peak power is 2x the original peak power when it should be 4x. If you have a few hundred lying around (which, judging by the fact that you are...

How can I understand Light as a Wave?

OK, now hold on-let's say the brown/green wave peaks at 1. During the constructive period, it has twice the energy (peaks at 2). This makes sense as there are twice as many sources. However, for just as much time, it has zero energy! So the total energy stays exactly the same, it's just that...

    What lights do you have?

Nice! Are they xmas presents, or all for yourself?

How can I understand Light as a Wave?

So then it's four times the max power density, as I said? Because if the second source cancels out the other in place A, the power at place B would be 2 (instead of the original 1/2).

Do you carry your laser as self defense at night?

Good post, Spengo! It's true, a lot of things like knives or powerful flashlights make really awful weapons, but they can also be enough to deter most criminals. Using a knife against a criminal would be stupid, but they see you as much more of a threat that way. Plus, I open a lot of...

How can I understand Light as a Wave?

This is really hard to explain... OK, so if you add energy from a second source, it only redistributes the energy from the first source, it doesn't add to it? That is what confuses me. The energy from the second source has to end up somewhere. It seems to me, from the animations I've seen...

How can I understand Light as a Wave?

Bluefan-if the power is now zero in some places, shouldn't the power that used to be there now all exist in a smaller area?

How can I understand Light as a Wave?

Ok, here's a question:let's say you have perfect sound-canceling headphones. In your ear, the volume is always zero. Now, people make it sound like wherever the sound constructively interfered, it would be twice as loud as normal. But if there is a second source of equal amplitude, what happened...

    Post a picture of yourself!

I joined when I was younger than you... :p I can do iPhone apps, but I choose not to (for now) because apple is made of cheap bastards who want my $100.

    What lights do you have?

4Sevens is the only company to produce an RGB light (there isn't enough of a market for anyone else to start). You could try to buy it used at a lower price, but probably only on CPF...

My god DiRollin, that thing is beautiful. How much do you have in to that thing?

    What lights do you have?

Any light that claims 14500 compatibility should be able to fit protected cells. Non-protected cells are a danger to themselves and the user, especially when the D11 has no voltage cut off inside the safe discharge range of a Li cell. His D11 was not defective. This shows the light should NOT...

    What lights do you have?

It's pretty massive. I'm talking 2-5mA in some cases, which is totally unacceptable. The D10 has under .2mA, which is still pretty high IMO. The parasitic drain decreases at higher voltages, which is why it works OK with Li-Ion batteries. Also, NiMH offers basically the same performance as the...

All the stuff your local police confiscated from you.

Wow... just looked up those names... at least they treated the second guy semi-reasonably.

    What lights do you have?

The main reason the D11/EX11 sucks IMO is because of the MASSIVE parasitic drain with lower voltage batteries. An alkaline AA might be dead within a week of just sitting there. It also has that retarded strobe mode... no force high/low. I like my D10 R4 a lot better (I just wish it threw more)...

All the stuff your local police confiscated from you.

I remember reading about a case in canada, some cops illegally broke in to a guy's house (no warrant, not even reasonable suspicion) wearing plain clothes and never shouted "police" as they entered. Reasonably, he threatened to shoot them (he assumed they were robbers). Somewhere in the mix...

    Credit card fraud...

Again, what you are saying has merit (I have "stolen" my own credit card number and bank info many times by hijacking my encrypted web sessions), but what most people don't realize is it's not worth the time unless there is a big payoff. I got ripped of $30. It's enough for me to care, but not...
