    AMC7124 driver chip

I thought what the hell, so 50 of them are on their way from China. Now I can post links, here's the datasheet if anyone's interested: http://www.addmtek.com/Datasheet/DD029-AMC712X_B(LF).pdf and if anyone's interested in a few to try out then just let me know.

    Cheap goggle solution perhaps?

Jayz, just make sure you test out those goggles before using them. The ones in the link you gave aren't the same colour lens as the bronze ones and it doesn't show the green laser frontsert :( I was also going to say the bronze ones would be good for 405nm lasers. I don't have one myself yet...

    Capacitors

A I understand it, the purpose of the capacitor in a driver circuit is to absorb any start-up voltage spikes. Is there any reason that it can't be put across the input voltage before the current regulating components? Surely this would still absorb any spikes, but if the diode was accidentally...

how to measure mA with this multimeter?

At the moment you will be measuring voltage. To measure the current you need to connect the multimeter in series by putting one probe on a laser diode pin, and the other where you would connect that pin to on the driver board. Edit: I was wrong, apologies :(

how to measure mA with this multimeter?

If you're measuring up to 200mA (no more or else you'll blow the internal fuse) then switch it to Adc 200m and put the black lead in COM, and the red lead in the red socket. Any more than 200mA and switch it to Adc 10A and put the red lead into the green socket.

    Diodes from 803T sleds $15

Re: Diodes from 803T sleds $18 ea. (or less) There's no rush at all, I'd rather go with the cheaper option so I may be able to get a 3rd. Edit: Also, is this just the PHR-803T diode, or is it possible to get the Red/IR one in there too?

    Diodes from 803T sleds $15

Re: Diodes from 803T sleds $18 ea. (or less) I'd also be down for 2 (or possibly 3 depending on the shipping cost to the UK)

    AMC7124 driver chip

Hi Viracocha, The one that DX sell are the AMC7135, which are fixed 350mA regulators and as you say, you can get them to work inefficiently if you use a resistor to soak up some current. The ones I'm talking about here are the AMC7124, which allow the output to be changed internally, so...

    Cheap goggle solution perhaps?

Apologies for bringing up this thread again, but I've just received some of these and thought I'd add to it. I bought them from eBay seller 'gruntgear' for £16 ($27) delivered to the UK. The set came with clear goggles, 'bronze' goggles, and a green frontsert. Using the green frontsert on the...

    AMC7124 driver chip

Thanks rkcstr, You obviously know a lot more about drivers than I do! I'll see if I can order a few for myself at a reasonable price and test them out.

    AMC7124 driver chip

Anyone interested in these at all? I got the idea from a thread from last year about the AMC7135 boards that DealExtreme sell. The AMC7135 is a 350mA current regulator designed for LED driving, and has good reviews on here. It's >90% efficient and has a 0.1V dropout voltage. The only problem is...

How do I get this thing to work?

It's usually the green one you have to connect to any black one to turn it on.

    Hello from the UK

Hi all! I'm Dave, 19, and from the UK. I'm a bit of a physics geek - currently in my 2nd year studying astrophysics at university. I love all things optical, especially lasers and came across this forum when trying to find out how to build a 405nm laser.. and found all the info I need :D Just...
