    Engraving machines

I used to work for a company a few years ago which had a Copper vapour laser used for engraving on steel. I think it was 30W if I remember correctly. It was pretty huge though, about 4x2m - wouldn't want to try and build one :o A CO2 laser might be feasible though.

    Snow n lasers

Loads of snow here in Hertfordshire too ;D Shining a laser about looks great to the eye, but there's so much light pollution here it looks rubbish on camera :(

    AMC7124 driver chip

The capacitor on the input protects from voltage spikes, it needs to protect the driver too as it can only handle 5.5V max as set up, so any voltage spikes are likely to damage that too. Having it on the input will also prevent the capacitor dumping all it's charge through the diode if it...

    AMC7124 driver chip

They arrived today :) here's a photo of one next to an Aixiz module: I don't have any diodes to test them on yet, but some are on the way. I'm also going to get some of these PCBs which will act as a little heatsink, and make them easier to work with. This would be a typical application to...

    Modding Red Dx 200mw

This thread will help with getting a DX 200mW from the US. Safety glasses for anything over 30mW are a must really. If you accidentally shine the beam at something reflective for a second and it bounces back into your eye - it would probably spell instant eye damage/blindness. Looking at the...

    Modding Red Dx 200mw

There's a little pot on my driver [smiley=lipsrsealed.gif] I'd like to unsolder the diode and hook it up to a dummy to see if it does anything, but everything's covered in glue >:(

    Modding Red Dx 200mw

Does it not already have a glass lens? Compared to an Aixiz acrylic lens, mine looks like it has the slight blue tint of an AR coating.

    Cheap IR laser diode?

According to the datasheet on the Stonetek website, the typical operating current is 240mA (max 280mA) and voltage is 1.9V (max 2.3V).

    Cheap IR laser diode?

Although a blue photon has a higher energy than an IR one, because 1W= 1 Joule/second, any 200mW laser will give out the same amount of energy per second. What makes the most difference when burning with different wavelengths is the colour of what you're burning. If it's the same as the laser...

Help with Setting up a payment page for the PHR-80

Re: Help with Setting up a payment page for the PH Have you got a link to AMK's site? The one I found didn't work. :-/ I assume the easiest way is a with a Paypal shopping cart. You can set up different options for whole sleds/diodes only, and the different shipping costs. I'd be happy to help...

    Capacitors

Thanks rkcstr, I should have remembered about them on voltage regulators. I'm still wondering about my first question though. I am sure there must be a reason or else people would be doing it, but I still can't work out why the capacitor in the DDL driver for example can't just go across the...
