    ** BluRay Diode GB **

I managed to make an LED out of my red as well :'( But yeah, it's no great loss - looked about like a 5mw and the focus difference was worse than I expected. I assume that's just the different refraction at a different light frequency as with a prism, since the two sources eminate from the same...

    DX True 30mw Popping Balloons?

Just found that my DX20 pen laser will pop balloons with a lens (un-sharpied) :) No such luck w/o the lens, even sharpied, but I was amazed a 20mw would do anything like that. (When it's not fading out. - From day one I've had what seems like switch problems.)

    Alternative for dorcy mini

Hmm. If it's really 3 Watts, the regulator probably puts out more current than is convenient for running a GB (or even an open-can) diode. I guess you could add another regulator or enough resistance to drop the current that much but that wastes battery life. Now if you spot a cheap 1W, 1 CR123...

    batteries for GB diode

Never mix battery types. Bad Things can happen :o The GB diodes draw a significant amount of current. I doubt you'd get even a minute off a stack of watch batteries. Also watch batteries are made for longevity, not high discharge rates, so you probably couldn't get enough current out of them in...

    ** BluRay Diode GB **

Or it may just be a question of "how dim is dim?" or "how white is white?". I notice many things that look the same shade of white react quite differently to this frequency of light. Compared to even a 5mw red, I'd say my BluRay looks quite dim, until it hits something that fluoresces even a...

Software for LOW end galvos + soundcard?

Okay, I finally found the download for Heathcliff: http://patrick.kolla.de/index.heathcliff.html (Way on the right, at the bottom of the frame, below the German text.) I'll post some pics when I get it working.

    ** BluRay Diode GB **

Yeah, when you switch your meter to current mode, you have to put it in series with the load (the diode), not in place of it or across it. In current mode your meter is almost a dead short (like an ohm or so), so you were really measuring the current across something like a 1-ohm load. (But it...

Software for LOW end galvos + soundcard?

These galvos are out of an old laserdisc player, and I'm sure they won't do more than a few hundred pps, and are of course, open loop. I know I need a DAC, but that's what a sound card does. I've seen mention of a program called Heathcliff that will supposedly output to a sound card, but I can't...

    ** BluRay Diode GB **

Just as a point of reference here, might give people some ballpark numbers... I'm using a 9V battery, and NTE1900 regulator (behaves just like an LM317), in Daedal's circuit. At 30 ohms on the potentiometer (+1 ohm to measure current across) I get a current of 41ma, and a voltage across the...

Software for LOW end galvos + soundcard?

Scanner noob question here: I've got some low-speed galvos, which I'd like to use to draw some low point-count, low-speed patterns or text. I can hook them to my soundcard and display music in X/Y. Does anybody know of some cheap or free software to draw simple shapes or output ILDA via a...

    Ultrasonic Cat greenie laser???

My cats will run in from wherever they are if I even pick up the cat-toy pointer. I think they hear the particular keychain rattle noise. But I've also seen them perk up when I push the button even when it's not pointed where they can see it. I don't know if it's that particular click that makes...

    Check out this current regulator...

If the max output is really 2.5V that's not gonna cut it. You'd need a max of something over 3V. I've gotta agree with BlueFusion - Daedal's LM317 circuit is much cheaper, only needs a few components, will supply as much current as this thing, and at suitable voltage.

    GB blueray, aixiz -vice advice

Re: GB blueray & aixiz If you don't get it pressed in all the way you may have focus problems. I've been taking great advantage of [Daedal's?] suggestion of using the back half of the module reversed, and put in a vise to press the diode into the front piece. Mine also went right in doing it...

    ** BluRay Diode GB **

Got mine running at 41ma on a proto-board - case is tomorrow's fun. It starts lazing aroung 35ma, so I guess I could go to 45 but I hate to push it. It's amazing what a brightness difference there is on various materials. As for the red, everybody said you'd have to re-focus, but I'm amazed how...

    ** BluRay Diode GB **

I've been told that mine arrived at the house, and here I am stuck at work :'( Maybe I should have called in sick today. Anyway, thanx from me too, Daedal!

    BluRay Driver?!

Good points Gazoo.  Darned if that doesn't look like a 1.0 Ohm resistor across the test-points on that driver board.  Maybe they are for current measurement. I killed a diode myself by hooking up a current meter with power applied - wasn't thinking. Oh, also, when I said I'd expect to see around...

    BluRay Driver?!

A regulator like an LM317, when you get right down to it, regulates voltage. In one configuration it can regulate the output voltage directly in comparison to its reference voltage. In the current configuration like everybody here is using, it regulates the output voltage relative to the...
