    Group buy for 16X dvd burner diodes !

    Thanks a lot, Greg. Better your diodes than mine. J/K ;D In all seriousness, I plan on feeding mine up to about 700-750mA. Of course they will be cooled down by an ice cold TEC. If these diodes do 80mW at about 130mA, then I expect about 390mW at 700mA from these babies. That would be...

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

    Yeah, and he's doing a pretty good job of explaining things too!  :) Thus far I've been lucky and only fried 2 diodes myself, and I am well aware of how much it sucks. And thanks for clearing up my misunderstanding about the capacitors. The only true experience I've had with them is from a...

    WTB: Heatsinks

    Thanks Greenie, I should have included an item number. I haven't gotten 20 posts yet, so I can't post links.

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

    Oh okay, so my explanation was pretty flawed. ;D Eh, thanks for the clarification about the resistor value as well. No need to apologize. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to write up this guide in the first place. I think I'll try to make one of my boards with a removable resistor...

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

    From what I've been told the main reason for the capacitor in very simple LD circuits (just a cap and resistor) is too smooth out in voltage spikes and give the diode a "soft start". You are right, it seems that the cap would only charge to the voltage on the diode. I think what Daedal is...

    WTB: Heatsinks

    Hey Carter, I just took a little deeper look around NewEgg's heatsink offerings, and I quickly found a heatsink that costs $2.69 each, but the shipping is $2.09 each. That's kind of aggravating. From the looks of it, your best bet would be to find a heatsink with an easily removable fan, and...

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

    Okay, I have a few questions. :P In the circuit diagram, the resistor is 4 ohms. You used a 10 ohm resistor in your circuit because you had it close by, but does it make any difference. I am guessing that it doesn't because you included a 4 ohm resistor in the diagram, linked to a 15 ohm...

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

    Damn, Daedal. This is an awesome guide. It seems like something even I can do! ;D I will definitely be builiding a few for my diodes. Thanks again!

    class II greens?

    Yeah, that's probably a good idea. But, 1mW red keychain pointers break way too easily. Are you in the UK? I know that ThinkGeek carries a very nice 5mW red pointer for $10, and I'm fairly sure that they ship internationally.

    Group buy for 16X dvd burner diodes !

    Hey Rog8811, These diodes should be perfect for mixing with 10mW of green. From what I've read, 650nm red is about 4 times less visible than red, and 660nm (what these diodes lase at) is slightly less visible than 650nm. I think that you would be golden with about 50-60mW of red to 10mW green...

    Eh, no need to appologize. Everyone is busy at one time or another. I am definitely looking forward to that guide though. Thanks man!

    Group buy for 16X dvd burner diodes !

    Hey Daedal, Yeah, I figured at 500mA it would probably kill it instantly. Thanks for the info though. I wasn't exactly looking for a delayed start up, I was just looking at slowly ramping up the current. But, I appreciate the information because I may wind up doing that in my circuit (if I can...

    class II greens?

    I myself haven't seen many Class II greens, but Arnold at Atlasnova has Class II greens but they are around $60. But Arnold did say at CPF one time that if you needed a 5-10mW green for $40 you could call him, so I figure he could probably give you a 1mW for $40. Styropyro's suggestion might...

    Group buy for 16X dvd burner diodes !

    Yeah, that's what I figured. :( Thanks for your help Gazoo, I'll look into making a circuit with a LM317T. I might wind up buying the Meredith Instruments driver though, since it was designed for laser diodes. But then again, it's $50.

    Group buy for 16X dvd burner diodes !

    Wow Greg! Nice pics. Can't wait to play around with my diodes.  :) Okay, I have a quick question though. When you add a capacitor to the circuit, it gives the diode a slow "start up" so to speak, right? Well I've been using 6.3 volt 100uf capacitors, and I want to play around with pumping high...

    Dang, that sucks Greg. I agree with all the comments above. I truly hope you find a good job soon! Good luck, man!

    Group buy for 16X dvd burner diodes !

    Whew, yes I did miss your post. Thanks so much Greg! You're the best! Just sent the money for 5 diodes! I decided to get a few more than I needed since I almost missed out this time... now I will have 8 working diodes.

    Group buy for 16X dvd burner diodes !

    Well, really I have been wanting to send the money since Sunday night but always got caught up playing with my greenies. I hope to God that he will be able to get me 3 or 4, but I'll take whatever I can get. Hopefully that won't mean not getting any at all! :P

    Group buy for 16X dvd burner diodes !

    Crap, I waited too long. I meant to send in my money last night. :-[ Oh well. SenKat, let me know if there is any way I can get 3 diodes. Thanks man.

    diodes

    Holy cow Greg, I will definitely buy a few of those 250-350mW red diodes, especially at $11 each. I've blown 2 out of 5 diodes from dr_lava's group buy. Just yesterday morning I was playing around with the 2nd diode and bang, the aligator clips touched each other and the diode went so dim it...
