    Lasers used to hack Alexa??

Thanks for the link, Steve. The real question I am still left with is how does light cause vibration in the diaphragm of microphone?

    RGB collimated unit

I wonder if the mounts are on hemispheres like a garage door opener sensor.

    Lasers used to hack Alexa??

I just sew a report on a local news channel about how a group of researchers used lasers to feed commands to alexa and siri devices. The beam was modulated through a laptop and able to send commands from 100+ yards away. The beam was striking the microphone. For lack of better words... WTF?

~17W, 15W and 12W blue laser handle with orange body!

I obtained samples of both quartz and granite from Lowes countertop sales associate. At 15W the CO2 easily etches both. The quartz reacts somewhat violently. The traces left behind have a shiny metallic appearance. When I have time, I will post a video with various power levels up to 50W.

Gamma-ray laser moves a step closer to reality

When I was teenager (80's), I did an independent study program at OSU's nuclear reactor. The first project I proposed was a gamma laser. The professors and others immediately shot down the idea. Some even became angry that I even suggested it. Years later I found out that this conncept was part...

Advice On Cleaning Cheap 532nm Optics

I am surprised to hear that alcohol can be used on acrylic lenses. Alcohol cracks acrylic in a process called crazing. I saw this first hand with flow indicator site glasses with acrylic windows. When I tried to run ethanol or isopropanol through, the windows cracked in a spider web fashion. On...

~17W, 15W and 12W blue laser handle with orange body!

We have rocks in Ohio too! I just have no way to identify them. I'll see what I can do.

~17W, 15W and 12W blue laser handle with orange body!

I do not know enough about geology to say. I can probably get samples of quartz and granite at Lowes. If you have some samples to send, I would be happy to try. I could log power settings and time and even post video clips.

~17W, 15W and 12W blue laser handle with orange body!

You got me curious, so I suspended the dye laser project for a few minutes to fire up the CO2. Dialed in at 15 watts and well focused I was able to scorch the surface and penetrate to a depth of 1/16" on red clay brick, and ceramic tile. I do realize that 10.6um is a far cry from 450ish nm, but...

    Power of the laser?

What everyone has said is 100% true. That being said, google "Laser Kids" and you will find what you are looking for.

Have i made this circuit correctly?

Don't take my word for it, and someone please correct me if I am wrong. Like Paul said... lose the divider. The spec on diode data sheets that say "max operating voltage" is actually the voltage drop accross the diode. This spec can be used to configure your test load, but input voltage can and...

The original Masers were ammonia based. I will have to read that article.

    High Voltage Project!

Your project reminds me of a gradeschool science fair project I did on lightning rods. I connected a neon sign transformer to a doll house to show that lightning hit the house without a rod, and hit the rod when it was added. I have always found it interesting that high voltage seems to have a...

I am curious, why an invisible wavelength?

    High Voltage Project!

I am using a 10 Gig Ohm voltage divider so 20KV reads as 20V. It is buffered through op amp as unity gain follower to meter. Right now I am researching amperage. I think, maybe, the rapid change in voltage creates too much current for op amp. i=c x dv/dt. cap= 1uF, time=<100ns, voltage change is...

    High Voltage Project!

Is your meter measuring primary voltage to transformer or high voltage across cap? I am having some problems with dye laser flashlamp measuring voltage on cap. My meter works great under stable voltage conditions, but fries op amp when lamp discharges.
