Absolutely true. You can extend the duty cycle of a handheld with lots of copper and additional host mass, but ultimately you need active cooling or a large finned surface area to enable continuous operation.

A lot of people like the stainless host for the looks but like others have said, the thermal conductivity is inferior to aluminum. I recommend this host for the higher power builds: S4X Host Assembly :)

Personally, I like the NDG7475... :D

Not being an optical engineer myself, if someone could produce a prototype I would certainly look into having them made and offering a royalty or other compensation for the design. ;)

As an update, our supplier has informed me that future batches of these test loads will use isolated diodes and thermal paste applied between the diodes and the heat sink. Thanks OVNI and Benm for your observations and comments so far.

It will be a kit of the insulating components.
