    DVD Burner Laser Driver Help

Maximum voltage is limited by your power dissipation. It depends on diode Vf and set current. If you set 0.4A, and the diode draws 2.5V, at 12v the lm317 would heat: 12v-2.5V * 0.4A = 3.8W. Thats not the maximum, but is plenty for a TO220 IC... Heatsink needed! IIRC You can go as high as 30V...

    DVD Burner Laser Driver Help

Without driver your laser diode may suffer damage soon. Don't use it like this (directly drove). With a LM317, you will need around the Vf of the diode (around 2.6V) plus some voltage for regulation (around 2.5V for the lm317). More than 5.5V should be fine, but you can always find the...

520nm diodes - new kid on the block - More powah

Great! The 90mW one? The names are somehow confuse... You're going to overdrive it? ;)

520nm diodes - new kid on the block - More powah

Yeah we can't know the maximum power until someone try to murder one of these. The % overdrive figure is based on the PL520... Anyways, as you said, its an arbitrary value. But we all know that almost every diode can be pushed very higher than manufacturer specs. If I had the money, I would...

520nm diodes - new kid on the block - More powah

Re: 520nm diodes - More powah I read somewhere that the laser die degrades pretty fast @ higher powers (cannot recall where), maybe lasting a couple hours if fully overdriven (around 136% as I read...). So, with a $120 diode, I'd not run it over datasheets specifications. I think the obvious...

520nm diodes - new kid on the block - More powah

Re: 520nm diodes - More powah I've never seen 520nm really, but the pictures are making me insane already.... 120mW @ 340mA. BUT the sheets say 480mA maximum... Why not more? ;) You sir, have a LPM? Results would be interesting... I dare you achieving 250mW. @Shakenawake Thats the...

520nm diodes - new kid on the block - More powah

Re: 520nm diodes - More powah Great. It is 5.6mm, which makes me think people will feel more confident soldering on those.. Lets just imagine a pair of those running @ 250mW each, PBS combined.. 0,5W @ 520nm, before optics! Maybe techhood can shed us some light on this laser diode...

520nm diodes - new kid on the block - More powah

Re: 520nm diodes - More powah I would be one but I'm out of money. Can't spend on lasers now.... :cryyy:. Heres a tip: @ $90 a B2 costs as much as a PL520 @ DTR's shop, and maybe Techhood will lower prices upon requests... we just need to ask and offer him to review the diode on LPF :eg...

    Regret Your Username?

@Flaminpyro OOOOOOOOOOOH man thats just amazing. I'm a pyro (in the good way) since a child and.... looking at these pics just made my day. @not derailing By the way, my username means leo/dah/san, 3 first letters of my full name. Leo = Leonardo! :D Its my online alias for almost...

520nm diodes - new kid on the block - More powah

Hey all. I opened this thread to share something I found, that people may not be aware of. First of all. Everything is speculation. The only way to confirm this info, is buying the diodes. I think everyone here knows the PL520's. They cost $85 on DTR Laser Shop. Fine. Its a 50mW rated diode...

Protective viewing window, film, or enclosure

@Isos Some appropriate colored cellophane should block reflections? If the laser never points to the "window", I think cellophane is a good idea, its cheap, and if it works, you can just put it behind some protection glass/acrylic.

    NV / IR camera

I really want one of these.... :eg: Maybe with a high power IR flooder (5W star)... +1 (when I can) for recycling. Did you find the snake? :)

class V (5) laser build specifications

It should be not named a "laser", because "laser" means light amplificated by stimulated emission of radiation. Emitting "black light", that would mean "absence of light", or some device that would "absorb light", hence not a "Laser".

    Christmas Ornament with 650nm laser

The module, or the diode is pressfit? I've removed long open cans from pressfit modules without issues, using an antenna + vice.

    Christmas Ornament with 650nm laser

Yeah solid state would be better than relays then. BUT you must check the laser operating temperature...

    Christmas Ornament with 650nm laser

@alessnilsen In your application it won't matter at all, I'd personally use transistor because they won't... "click"? :D a good reference regarding 555s (calculators, click to see astable timers): LM555 Timer Circuits Regarding the link above: Just adding a transistor (base) to pin 3 (with a...

CLOSED - Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Substitute for the M140)

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450 (M140) @Elektrotechniker Yes it is. Here you go some specifications about it... Osram Catalog @The Lightning Stalker You sure the PL TB450 is the "M140" diode? Seems like PL TB450B can be pushed harder... (rated 1.6W instead of 1.4) can you source those too...

    808nm "lethal" supply

@dzrick Just a second. Where are you located at? (asking because I saw the attachments names...)

    Did you see a doc?

    a "re-welcome".

Welcome back, aryntha. Great collection you got there, you just need <400nm wavelengths now. haha Have a nice stay...
