If I recall correctly this forum came about during a time when high powered handheld lasers were popping up all over the place. Vendors like LaserGlow, Wicked Lasers, Nova Lasers, Tech Lasers, Dragon Lasers ect were offering this new gadget that provided laser powers rarely seen outside of labs...

It sounds like the collimating optic isn't appropriately coated for the wavelength of the laser. The optic should not need a heatsink and should not be getting hot enough to warrant one.

I was hoping to the do that but the pill seems to be glued shut. I tried prying at it with a pick and razor blade but if I try any harder I'm afraid I'll snap something. oh well

494nm is nice! My 483nm, 488nm and 493nm are all GH04850B2G diodes. The variance in color from a single diode is wild

Aside from looking different they are also rated differently. The "classic" G2's around here are broadband coated while the ones you have are coated just for violet and blue wavelengths

I've got a NUBM07 and a NUBM0G both producing 471nm, I think they are both rated for something like 465nm at manufacturer rated currents
