I played the pokies... and won. With $50

I shall not leave you waiting, heres my photo of the wad of cash I came home with. Tomorrow I'm going up to the bank to deposit some, and buy some diodes off DTR :) I couldn't find anymore room on my computer desk for the other wad of 50's I had in my back pocket. Gambling IS NOT a good idea...

Osram PLP520-B1 520nm Green Laser Diode

If I wasnt so poor at the moment I'd be buying one of these diodes - they sure look like a good start to getting back into playing around with lasers. First gotta clean off all the junk on my workbench before I can build anything! I was so close to ordering one but then I thought "nah not yet...

    WTB: UK/AUS microwave transformer 240V 50Hz

Damn if I had have seen this a bit earlier I could have scruffed the microwave I saw on the street earlier and salvaged the transformer. Most of the time over here its usually the fuse that pops and people just trash the microwave and buy a new one (they are cheap enough). 9 times out of ten the...

    My HeNe pointer

Nice build. I'd be too wary to hold it though in case I got zapped by it and dropped it, smashing the tube. how many mW does that cute little tube put out?

    Long term project...FINISHED [pic heavy]

Yep further study lead me to that conclusion. Been doing tonnes of research on the head to see what works and what doesnt :)

    Long term project...FINISHED [pic heavy]

That could end up being expensive to ship to Australia though - what model is the supply that needs repair?

    Long term project...FINISHED [pic heavy]

Nice work Ultimate - just makes me want to hurry along and build/buy a power supply for my omnichrome 643 :)

HeCd Helium Cadmium Laser (might need a new home)

As if it needs to be said, I can vouch for Rob, hes a great guy and sold me my Reliant argon (which I subsequently sold due to financial constraints). Trustworthy man - I had my laser christmas eve. That was a great christmas, considering I had a nasty accident the day before, took my mind off...

    Drones

For those that want to see a good example of how far hobby drones have come, check out Things Youtube channel - he has an impressive collection of the things. (no pun intended!). I personally want one myself for aerial photography, and wouldn't blink an eye at equipping it with these... :)...

Argon goodness in a handheld!(pic heavy)

Very inventive, and I too agree, that is the coolest looking "snake" draped across the floor - 488nm snake - shame your taking such a power loss through the fibre :(

What kind of beam visibility difference can i expect to see from 100 mw 532 nm?

No nightowl you wont be let down if its a true 100mw pen - it'll be pretty darn bright. Beam visibility in a dim room will astonish you, even in a well lit room it will leave the lyra in its dust. remember that something has to scatter the laser beam in order to make it visible e.g. fog or dust.

    Consider my mind BOGGLED!

Yep 40kpps galvos will do that show, and quite a lot of graphics shows as well. There are two more popular examples - the Dragon Tiger 40's (or DT40's for short) and the Dragon Tiger 40W's (or DT40W's for short). They are almost always referred to by their short name e.g. "I have a set of...

    Consider my mind BOGGLED!

That is correct. You use beams with vastly different beam sizes (e.g. a 3mm green, a 5mm red and a 4x2 blue) yes the blue will line up ok, but anything using the red will have red tinges to it because its so big. And since its so big, you'll need more power to even out the color balance...

    Consider my mind BOGGLED!

Yeah but those RGB units have horrible beam specs - the red laser is huge, and so is the blue.

    Got a new ion laser

I only have one word - and yes I have had one of the 50mW 488nm Reliants. Started first click, every time. Oh that one word? *drool* Nice laser - and nice setup - yup its a keeper :)

    Consider my mind BOGGLED!

Then you have to consider - Quickshow comes with the DAC so you get both hardware and software with that one. Granted, the quickshow DAC could be built for about $100 in parts, you also get a heap of shows with the quickshow set, plus a lot of other content. I believe some of those special...

    Spectra Physics 270-1 power supply

Now THAT is a passbank - yep sure are a helluva lot of TO-3's there :)

    8 line TUNABLE argon

Nice new toy bloom - I'm jealous - go away on holidays, and come back and find yet another member has a new gas laser - and tuneable too! Sig, I'll try the slit method once I get my argon - prolly mount it all on a baseplate I can get from a local metal suppliers, a couple of micro mounts, and...

DTR's Laser Shop - Laser Diodes & More

I ordered a 120mw singlemode from DTR 3 weeks ago and it rocked up sometime while I was away on holidays. (probably tuesday last week). This ones for a pointer - I'll be ordering a RGB set once I finish paying off my argon, to put into my projector :) Thanks DTR :)

A Gas Laser Primer For the Noob

I'll try that when I get my argon :)
