Was the lower capacity battery charging first?

If you have an ipad/android tablet charger lying around plug it into that - that *should* supply enough current to charge the batteries simultaneously. If you don't have one but know a friend with an ipad, ask if you can try their charger with your um20. I believe iphone etc chargers won't...

Yours looks way better than mine - nice design actually - now put some servos on the arm so you can remote manipulate it from an RC controller or gamepad :) Mines just a mic holder re purposed for holding lasers. Does the job though, but yours look way better :)

I wonder if the OP by ground means "Does my X-Drive need to be thermal epoxied to the chassis so it doesn't overheat" and is wondering which device on the board needs to be epoxied?

^agree - quite dangerous. 1 stray reflection and the reaction could mean he drops the laser and bad luck would have it, it would bounce and get him again. I hope he gets goggles for that laser. I finally got my arg 33's for mine (520nm 1W) and can finally have some fun with it burning stuff :)

Totally understand you cyp - cept what I need is an aiming beam - the switch would turn the laser off altogether hence using low current (0V modulation) to have the diode just barely lasing, then punch up to etching power when the switch is closed :).. I'll draw a schematic later and post it up...

They are awesome quality - what model did you get hera? I got the 520nm NDG700 diode in mine. Stupid bright. I'm done playing with mine for now, until I get my goggles :)

I don't like the idea of a switch in the lasers supply (well physically). I don't want to introduce spikes. The whole idea of this is coz I already have the bits at hand. No one wants to take chances with a $370 (AU $500) diode :)

A battery operated portable hand held laser is a prohibited weapon if the power output is over 1mW. You would probably also get busted if you take a lab laser module (mains powered, so not a battery operated hand portable) outside on an extension cord and point it into the sky, your neighbors...

I would also add that since you live in a major city like me, I would be very cautious about using it even in your back yard. Accidentally get it in your neighbours window, or have any reflections that escape outside the boundry of your backyard, it only takes one spoilsport to call the police...

Agree with the above, and above all a good set of laser saftey glasses (which you should buy before purchasing/building a high powered laser) will run you at least $20. That $20 can be replaced. You only get one set of eyeballs :)
