    Win thread

This is for an off grid setup - just to run my PC, the home entertainment and the server. Things that are always on, or idling. Like the DSL modem and the server & switch. Should cut my power bills substantially. I won't be selling power back to the grid, as I believe they should pay me the...

    Win thread

I won yesterday - my new solar controller turned up and its got a setting I didn't count on as a bonus. So when my lead acid bank carks it, I'll be able to move to lithium batteries. :) Took a look inside, and its WELL made for a chinese machine.

Ben fixes an ILT (was Another ILT arrived today)

Re: Another ILT arrived today Sorry for the double post. Today I mapped out the fan pins, so now I can wire in my fans when I get them (I already have the top fan). I just need to move the tap from 115V to 240 to run 240V fans. The hour meter also runs off this, but it has a universal rating. I...

    Do you like fireworks

Its a shame we can't get fireworks over here - they used to be fun - but sadly like morons with lasers shooting them at planes, they've been banned - probably because parents didn't supervise kids with them, which lead to blown off fingers/burns/injured pets. Not to mention people blowing up...

    Forklift reverse laser

imagine if someone replaced the diodes with the 6W jobbies, and the fork was reversing, and the beam hit a cardboard boxed parcel. Of fireworks. And it set it on fire :P Could just see it on the news "Forklift laser safety system anything but safe. Starts fire in warehouse"

    Remember to exercise those argons!

I will hopefully be exercising MR ILT 2 tomorrow once I get a plug top for the cord and move that blasted grey wire to the correct tap. :) edit: strike 2 - another dead laser - all voltages appear correct so I think it might be on the start card. I'll check that tomorrow - probably the firing...

    5405A 208 to 240V

I know this can be done, its simply a matter of changing the transformer taps. I've done the small transformer but need to do the big (filament transformer). Does anyone know which wires to move. edit Gawd its basic electronics theory. It should work like an autotransformer - find the tap...

    Remember to exercise those argons!

My power supply is coming any day soon for the ILT I bought off ebay. Have a mate staying on the weekend for a movie marathon and 8 bit computer gaming weekend (commodore 64), but we'll also play lasers. We'll video the disassembly and inspection of its guts, then we'll tesla it, get out the...

Ben fixes an ILT (was Another ILT arrived today)

Re: Another ILT arrived today Yes now I just need the 100 hour clock one from the uncle and I'll own three! I'll need another 5405 PSU to run it, but first I have my eye on an auction for the funky 40 led bar remote controller :) edit: just pulled the plenum off the unit and test fitted one...

No I haven't seen it yet - too busy examining my recent aquisition - another bloody ILT argon. This one arrived in fine nick, and just needs the remote to local fan modification to make it go :) I'll check it out as soon as I get time. I'm off to bed - very tired very busy Ben needs sleep.

Hey RB are both eyes fed the same status indications in the goggles. As I am blind in one eye, I cannot see the point in my buying them if I am missing half my status indicators (which are important when flying an upside down lawnmower!)

Ben fixes an ILT (was Another ILT arrived today)

Re: Another ILT arriving today Yes - I wonder if the fedex guy will arrive at 2:55 pm and deliver then say "quick put the telly on - I want to watch the race!!" LOL. Even some of the buses up here have TV's in them and its not unusual for the driver to put the audio over the PA so if your stuck...

Ben fixes an ILT (was Another ILT arrived today)

Yep its on the fedex truck to be delivered today. So stuck at home waiting for the parcel. This is the 1300ish hour one in my sig. Hope ebay GSP didn't repackage this one so badly that its a box of crushed metal. I've read some real horror stories about their habit of repackaging parcels to...

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Depending on your filament voltage, a simple rewound mot can power a filament easily. The battery guys often repurpose them as spot tab welders. Once the HV secondary is hacked off, they are a cheap (free) source of gobs of current at low voltage. From memory when I saw the video of...
