After a good week, this will become a VERY important question again. But as i mentioned before, not what current to test the second 12x at, but rather what power to test it at. Now we have a big problem here. The first experiment ended badly after only 6 hours of 390mA + one power measurement...

It's true they always speak in Pulse power, but with most diodes the pulsed rating is simply twice that of the CW rating, with a 50% duty cycle - basically they are saying, that if the diode is only ON half the time with very short pulses it can survive twice as much... Sometimes they specify...

You would most likelly get more than 550mW at 400mA from an average 12x. The diode in the first attachment is a lower efficiency 12x, the one Dave sent for the murder experinment, but it unexpectedly became undead for reasons unknown. :cryyy:
