    Bitcoin

Ethereum is an interesting one.. I think it's better to think of it as a distributed computer rather than currency. It's really cool tech but I am unsure if it will take off. It is kind of like a solution without a problem right now. As for bitcoin, it's been a bull market this year for sure...

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

That would be awesome, :) I just shipped the order for you.

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

Ah, I'm not sure but it should be configurable as the reset pin is bidirectional. However it doesn't matter as there is no reset pin on the external DAC. Only way to null the outputs is to send an SPI signal. The uc does this as it powers up and it powers up in less than a millisecond so it...

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

The internal watchdog does fully reset the mcu as if the reset pin was driven low. Openlase support has always been a plan, but I haven't had the time for it yet and don't quite know when I will.. There are a bunch of stuff like that I want to support eventually, like openframeworks too.

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

Yeah the projector is cheap with both pretty bad modules and scanners. Any errors you see in the video should be either their, the software or the camera's fault. It looks the same in real life as any other DAC I've tested, and I've previously verified that the output is correct on an oscilloscope.

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

I made a quick video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq_16HsXrRI&feature=youtu.be I do use it as my main DAC now, for the programs that support it at least

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

Yeah in the newest firmware v3 there is already a watchdog that resets the uc and thus shuts off the output. But it's just set to the default 16 seconds right now, so it won't do much good if it ever needs to be urgently shut off. Decreasing the timer value shouldn't be hard though, and either...

BitLasers 4.5 Watt 465nm light blue handheld laser

    Thanks for the review :)

    Let's talk about Mars.

If that many people suddenly died you can be sure that many more will as well. Our society right now is dependent on numbers, we need skilled labourers preparing and distributing food, we need electricity and fuel for heat and transportation, we're basically useless alone. I don't think we have...

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

There's not, no, except their store is US based so Americans would get the product faster, and probably save shipping costs to even it out a bit, etc. I originally priced the product with direct distribution in mind so unfortunately I couldn't justify absorbing the extra price margin. It's still...

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

The DAC can now be bought at Innolasers as well: https://innolasers.com/shop/index.php?id_product=23&controller=product Also, it might be available for purchase as a bundle deal with LSX in the future.

    cheap projector

Yeah indeed most of those projectors have underspec lasers and scanners equivalent to like 12 kpps. But for a cheap starter system they are okay I think. I actually have this one personally: Emma EM-RGB234, it's okay, it handles beamshows and simple graphics just fine, and the lasers are strong...

    cheap projector

The Laserdock is very good value, but it may be a little bit limited if you want to upgrade in the future due to the built in DAC and no ILDA port. But if you only have $475 it might be the best choice. If you don't want to go that route, aliexpress lists a lot of cheap projectors. You want one...

Vrilda - Virtual Reality Laser Show Player

The screenshot doesn't quite do it justice, it looks a bit different (better) in a headset. For example the image lack anti-aliasing for some reason. You can look at this video, it shows the quality a bit better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a82y9Y5_hw

Vrilda - Virtual Reality Laser Show Player

I have been wanting to update this to work with the Vive and the final version of the Rift, however the program currently depends on a third party extension to the engine I am using to enable VR support, and that extension seems to be out of development. I don't even know how to contact the...

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

A failsafe is a good idea yes. I will see if I can make something for a future firmware version or I would have to make hardware changes.. As for holes. I had originally planned to add mounting holes but it got de-prioritized when I found the solution with the enclosure. But I think there...

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

There are two 12bit DAC channels on the atmel chip for XY, then there's an external DAC for the 8-bit color channels, the little IC to the right of the MCU. Yes, all the three rightmost ICs are opamps, one handles XY signals, one handles color signals and one handles misc. signals like the...

Helios - Open source, low cost DAC

Yes it has the full signal range. No way to set gain in firmware but most programs can do this anyway on the computer side so there's really no need, also since it's open source you could make a custom firmware with this functionality yourself if needed anyway. :)
