I use the camera on my phone to see IR. It's not the best but it works, perhaps that will help you zero in on the problem. Turn down the laser as much as possible and hold the camera at distance, that may take some of the glare out.

Cheech is right....that is way overprice for a general collector. It is true that those lasers cost that much new and still do if you purchase them from a professional supplier. If your not using it for a scientific use than you can get a nice HeNe for way less. If you want just a small HeNe...

That is a pretty neat unit. Thanks for sharing. I'v been eyeing one for a bit now. Perhaps putting it together with a cheap 20K scanner. I too would be interested in seeing how things are arranged.
