A140 Arrived. 24 Watt outdoor pics

I've just asked for pricing for a PBS and mount from CNI laser. I'll first try combined just two beams. Run them at 1.4amps each. Hopefully I can achieve about 2.5 watts. It's strange to speak watts now days. Only a little while ago we spoke milliwatts:)

A140 Arrived. 24 Watt outdoor pics

This morning was time to test a single diode. I couldn't find a suitable housing so I did something a little unorthodox. I drilled a hole into a heatsink then used Artic Thermal Adhesive and "glued" the diode down in the hole.Thought it'll do well in heat transfer. First testing at 1.1A was...

Merged 445nm Pictures and Video Thread

So it stopped lasing by never killed the diode?

A140 Arrived. 24 Watt outdoor pics

I know. Thats why I only did it once and took the picture quickly. Didn't want to draw to much attention. :)

A140 Arrived. 24 Watt outdoor pics

So my $1400 XJ-A140 arrived yesterday. Before ripping the guts out I watched some Lord of the Rings using the HDMI port. This only lasted some 5 minutes. Then the dissection procedure began. The first power-up revealed to true brightness of these diodes. Blinding! The 24 diodes reflected off a...

Warning on use of acrylic lens on 445nm at high power

The first time I used my 10 watt 808nm fiber system I burnt my glass lense. Never thought that was possible. And I burnt several more...along with some stuff on my work desk. 10 watts is just insane. Thankfully I never powered it on until my laser goggles arrived. And I also put 10 watts...

Warning on use of acrylic lens on 445nm at high power

How then do you double the brightness of 500mw? 2 watts? I always thought: 2mw double brightness of 1mw 4mw double brightness of 2mw 16mw double brightness of 8mw 64mw double brightness of 32mw 1024mw double brightness of 512mw ?????

    Solder idea

I always solder the diode pins while the diode is in a heatsink. This will help get rid of some of the heat.

    Post your mA and mW

I have a question about voltage......before I hook up the 445nm I've set my FlexMod-N2 to 1.1A. The voltage is 10v. I'm using a normal 3-12v 1000mA wall adapter. I have the "selector" on 7.5v although when I connect a meter to the FlexMod output it reads 10v. If I put the "selector" on 6v then I...

Mutil watt 445nm using beam splitters?

Hi Andy, Thanks for the info. So I couldn't knife edge 8 diodes in a row. I'd have to stack some as you said? I really didnt think about rotating the diodes. Good advice

Could you clarify when you say stacked four high? Thank you

Mutil watt 445nm using beam splitters?

Ok, So here is my optimistic new project I'm going to begin next week when my Casio XJ-A140 arrives. There are 3 rows of 8 diodes. I'll remove two rows. Cut the block with a band saw so that only the top row remains. Therefore I'll have one row of 8 diodes side by side. Then I'll make/buy eight...

    Disappointing experience with 445nm

Will Casio/Sony use resin on there future laser heads?

Having worked with IBM products over the past 15 years I've tried countless times to extract the laser diodes out their fiber products. (I know there is not much use for lasers at these wavelengths) These include, HBA's, fiber switches, Midrange fiber cards, SFF's etc. Eveyone one of their laser...

Mutil watt 445nm using beam splitters?

It took me a while to figure out the image..but now I see how it works. Wow. There's 48 red laser diodes! My A140 projector is on it's way....I'm definitelty going to try something similar. Even if it's only 4 blue diodes. I don't mean to drag this thread on but couldn't you combine two diodes...

@Andy, Thanks for the info. So is it possible with cubes?

    Casio XJ-A140 for $1375...must i buy?

Ok. I just bought the XJ-A140....My G/F is going to kill me if she finds out I just spent that on "lazors" as she puts it:)

Mutil watt 445nm using beam splitters?

One watt is "alot" for a pointer but when you doing shows in a large hall one watt 445nm may lose its effectiveness quickly. The dichros is very interesting. I have some dichros but I never knew some could pass a wavelengh and reflect the same wavelength. Using that method one could build quite...
