    3W laser destruction!!

So I finally finished modding my 3W laser and thought I would make a quick video for LPF and youtube... So here you go! ADzPbSI2qXo Well... fuck... -Adrian

    $32 laser scanner- legit?

Well I mean... If I'm only going to drop potentially <$50 on galvos I would consider this as a budget project. This unit I have decided is going to be a beam show only device. By decent I mean something I won't have to dick around with to get working... yet cheap enough to be used in a budget...

    $32 laser scanner- legit?

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 25k version and the 15k? They physically looks the same in the pictures and their descriptions are the same... AL-15K - $32.00 : Laser Light-goldenstarlaser.com, Laser Light-goldenstarlaser.com AL-25K - $60.00 : Laser...

Yeah bro... Start looking for a host you like, then get a custom made heatsink for it.... just like everyone else does...

Need measurements for the WL Sonar

Hey guys, If there is anyone out there with a sonar, could you please draw up a quick sketch of it with measurements? I would love to make a few for my self, on the lathe, as I love this host. If it works out well I might be able to run a GB for it. But that's to be decided later, right now I...

Are laser diodes sensitive to vibration?

It's all about mass.... Vibrating a bond wire inside a diode to the point where it breaks or bends, will have to be extremely specific. The only "movable" parts in a diode is the bond wires, which have very little mass, so general use vibrations would not cause any disturbance to the position...

    Vintage Variac Restoration!

I wanted to over-volt it... but I was scared of over-currenting it at elevated voltages. But as Sigurthr pointed out, either way 8A is 8A... the windings do not care if its 10V or 10,000V. Also yeah I read that they are fine to work up to 200% overload for a while... I'll probably put in a 16A...

Garage sale Uniphase HENE w/ PS - now what

Sounds about right.... 5.55W input and only 4mW output.... Gas lasers are extremely inefficient!

Garage sale Uniphase HENE w/ PS - now what

Yup... 3 should put you into the 12V range... the whine was from the PSU boosting the voltage up because ur input was too low. Looks good mate! Now workout how to put it into a host :D

    Vintage Variac Restoration!

Ohhh ok I see how it correlates now. This makes perfect sense! Thank you +1 mate! Yup... hit it right on the head!

FS: Arctic, HeNe(633nm), 1W 650nm, and IR Pen (Goggles included)

That HeNe looks sweet! Whats the input specs? How much would shipping be excluding the power supply to 2198, Sydney Australia?

Garage sale Uniphase HENE w/ PS - now what

Put it in your maglight :D No seriously you could... make a nice 12V pack up with some 18650's... or even 2 packs paralleled. Mount the PSU on the outside of the host with the tube inside. It should run for a quite a while... they usually require only 2.5A or so at 10-15V.

    Vintage Variac Restoration!

Ok this doesn't make sense to me... sorry if this sounds stupid, but a volt-amp is literally the output voltage multiplied by the amperage... right? So if the windings in my case can handle 8A at 240V giving a VA rating of 1920VA... Doesn't this mean at 336V the current handling capability now...

    Vintage Variac Restoration!

I have a quick question for someone with a bit more knowledge.... If I want to over-volt this thing, i.e. place the hot side on the center tap and pass it with the wiper getting double the input voltage... what kind of ballast do I need? I read somewhere that it's recommended to use a...

    Vintage Variac Restoration!

There is a video in the OP showing me using it. I just read the resistance of the coil as I moved it and it looks pretty nice! I think 8mm or 10mm acrylic should be strong enough to handle it (get it hahahahahhahahaha no :scowl:)
