    Can someone help me out?

I borrowed a Volt meter from a friend of mine. When i hooked it up to the battery source directly (4 X AA) it read 5.51v) when i hoooked it up to the positive and negative leads where the LD should be hooked up to, it reads 4.80v i dono whats goin on, whats not working? now i know how i...

isnt the other diode the IR diode? haha or have i been using the IR diode all along?

    Can someone help me out?

im using a 25-ohm pot (3watt) that was specified in daedul's tutorial. And im using two 10 ohm resistors in parallel (to make it 5ohm)

    Can someone help me out?

well haha, i couldnt wait and i re did it, but even with the way that was specified, the POT wasnt able to do lower or max the current going thru.... so i had to Re-wire it by putting the positive lead from the battery pack off the lead 1 of the LM371, and soldered it to the POT's pin 1, then on...

so, do u think if i re-do it the way ur telling me, it should work out? or is the diode dead for sure.... eh, i guess we'll find out tonite when i work on it.

    Can someone help me out?

yea, sort of, i think...ill test it tonite.

    Can someone help me out?

yea i looked at it, and i wired it up as the diagram showed on daeduls's pics, but when i read the box, it said pin 2 is Vout instead of Alt

    Can someone help me out?

yea, so i guess its dead... u know what, i checked the package, and my LM371T is alot diffrent... 1 = Vin 2 = VOUT! 3 = Adj I set it up as 2 = Adj and 3= Vout.....maybe that killed it?

    Can someone help me out?

i dont know what the voltage is to be exact, but the battery pack is setup in series, so its 1.5 X 4 = 6v. Ill try to borrow a Volt meter from a friend this week.

These are brand new batteries. And as for the comment about the diode being dead, is this what happens when the diode dies? it doesnt stay that bright?

    Can someone help me out?

Something really weird is up, the diode lights up but when i crank the POT to its max, its still a weak light... and the way the diagram shows it, if i hook it up like that, the POT doesnt even do anything. SO i modified it, here take a look, whats wrong? Here it is on MAX(Cranked all the way...

    Can someone help me out?

and, could i hook up a 9v battery as its power source? or would that be too much?

    Can someone help me out?

thanx for all ur help ths far, but how can i defrentiate which one is the one that i want to use?

    Can someone help me out?

sweet, another thing, u saw that i have two diodes that i got out of my dvd burner, can i use either one to make a high power laser that can burn thru things? or will only one of them do this?

    Can someone help me out?

Hmm, well what do u mean by Solder the capacitor directly across the diode...can u show me a rough sketch?

    Can someone help me out?

Here's a rough layout of my board so far! (its not soldered yet)

    Can someone help me out?

I got a 10ohm resistor instead of the 4ohm, is that a big diffrence?

    Just came back from Radio shack and got most of the stuff! Capacitor - 47UF 35V - Catalog # 272-1027 LM317(T) - Catalon #276-1178 Potentiometer - Catalon # 271-265 Resistor (10 ohm) Siicone Diode - 1N4001 - Catalog # 276-1101
