Who Would Be Interested In Some Brass Hosts?

Pretty good design, and I always liked entertaining an idea of all-brass host, extra weight giving it a high-quality feeling and all, but what do you intent to do about the oxidizing? Brass tarnishes horribly fast in air, even worse when used with your hands here and there. I had one or two...

Lasers extract from laptop DVD burner

One of the misconceptions we have here is that these sorts of threads can be stopped from happening, that we can make the information available and condensed enough that nobody needs to ask duplicate questions. I personally believe that to be quite false, since we're dealing with a highly...

    A new "Photino" 465nm @ 5W

5 Amps buck driver, huh? That explains it, two lipos are in series, and bucking it down to diode's voltage gives you some runtime. How much amps is the diode actually pulling? Charging port is badass. I assume the charging circuitry isn't in the case of the laser, right? All in all very...

Lasers extract from laptop DVD burner

That is true but the fact that the other diode is a short can type isn't giving much hope. Well there's one way to know for sure: the tint of the reflection off the window of the small diode. Greenish reflection - IR. Bluish reflection - Red.

    A new "Photino" 465nm @ 5W

I'd assume those are two small lithium polymer packs on the sides? Why the blurring? I mean, it's not like somebody's going to steal your laser or the idea. You've got proof right here (time stamps on posts) you built it first. Besides I don't think I've ever seen a dispute over ownership of...

Lasers extract from laptop DVD burner

Actually I believe the large, 12-pin one is the red diode, and unfortunately, unusable. You'll need to find drives that have both diodes in 5.6mm package, like the first diode you posted. Sorry :( Alternatively you can grab some diodes off DTR's shop: https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/...

    A new "Photino" 465nm @ 5W

Can't say I've seen a video where beam brightness alone flares the camera's lenses enough for it to reduce overall brightness of the capture. Do we get some shots of the insides, build details? What lens are you using that it has such a thin beam profile? What battery is small enough to power...

Why is it doing this?? Spyder 3 Arctic 2W

Sounds like a dead battery to me - just to cover the basics, you have tried recharging and using a fresh battery, right? If the battery is not to blame, then I don't know if you can fix what is, without sending it back for a replacement :( If it's not the battery, it sounds like some weird...

    Is 200mW laser for $20 a fake?

Diffuse surfaces like walls are perfectly safe, especially with below Class IV lasers (heck, and even Class IV lasers). Specular reflections do pose a problem and a danger, but they're easy enough to recognize and avoid - avoid metallic surfaces, shiny paint, laquered wood, etc. Anyhow back...

HELP! I don't know what im doing

I would advise against using a CD-RW diode, for reasons mentioned by Stalker. It's barely any fun to build, and definitely a danger to anybody else. If you need to get some diodes, I'd recommend checking out this shop: https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/ Regarding the drivers themselves...

my story (how i got my darwin award)

Don't be that hard on yourself (unless you're making humor on your own expense, which is always funny in real life but rarely translates well over internet). You apparently are very aware of the dangers of lasers and how to properly used them, and more importantly, are able to learn from your...

    RadioShack Gone bust?

LOL! That sounds like a personal experience, R. Any back story to it? We've never had Radioshack in Croatia but I've heard of it. Plastic packaging and all for one $5 555 timer? Meanwhile on eBay, you can almost buy components by weight instead of count.

    5mW laser to 5W one ?!

Nice try. Giveaways: No foreigners misspell word "the", and only advanced English users know of the word "''Tis". In short: these are not the mistakes of somebody not knowing English, they are the mistakes of somebody pretending to not know English :D

    Help if you can

Yeah it's really not bright at all. Hmm, that is some weird green module, never seen anything like that before. Most common are 11mm brass modules, for example: 532nm 50mW Laser Diode Module Green Beam Dot Test Lab | eBay What's your module's width?

    Help if you can

I have no idea what could cause this sort of power loss in a green laser, honestly. If they crystals got mis-aligned, you wouldn't be getting any green out. If the lens were to go misaligned, you'd get weird shapes and weird beam focus, but not like this. If you're up for some DIY and...

best safety glasses for class 4 laser?

... wish I could follow up with "We missed you" :D What Marcus suggested is about the best suggestion. Eagle pair goggles are considered top of the line around here and not too expensive (some other models go up to $150). Survival laser is based in US so if you're from there, that's the...

    First Build Questions

Hm, personally I think 530mA is a bit too high for a red diode. I'd stop at 450mA, max. Anyhow, yeah the problem is that this driver does not have any side of it that's continuous, meaning there are components between positive input and output, and components between negative input and output...

Need help with diode press/no module

In it's jaws, clamp the kryton head, a diode and a diode press. In that order. Align everything so that when you tighten the vice, a diode press tool pushes the diode nice and straight into the diode socket machined into the Kryton head. So basically just do what you'd normally do with a module...

You need a vice tool. Do you have that?

I feel trolled. Very much. Wow, dat fail!

Not sure what host you have, but you most likely want to search for "16mm flashlight switches": 16mm 101F Gold Plated Clicky Switch for Flashlights 10 Pack | eBay That's a ten-pack for two bucks. Grab a few packs and you have enough supply to fix all the aging flashlight tailcaps in the future.
