    Tread Lightly, my friends.

Haha, nothing is super bad as 635nm. But great beam visibility for red color, and I don't mind, personally I don't give much attention to beam specs. It's not like I'm going to make holograms with it, for shining it around the night sky it could be far worse, I'd still take it.

    Dangerous Laser, Need 101ing!

FIVE BUCKS for a cup of coffee?! Holy sh*t! That explains why people can be a bit cranky around here :na: Kiddin', kiddin'. @Zyzz, Look man, people here have a negative response to "I just want a burning lasers" kind of approach, even though at least some of them won't admin that's what...

    Tread Lightly, my friends.

To help answer the question at hand, If you are looking for good beam characteristics, you are looking for single-mode diodes and DPSS lasers. A140/M140 and similar very high power 445nm diodes are multimode and do not have nice divergence, regardless who makes the laser.

    besy way to record lasers?

All taken with an Xperia S, which is 3 and a half years old by now (jeez, it just occurred to me :D ) What do all of these have in common? They are all taken at night, or very dark conditions (even the room photo with a desk lamp is magnitudes darker than outside sunlight). Snapping a...

2nd build ever .. and i have failed.

This is the part I am worried about - what precisely does that mean? Did you touch the diode with the wires, while driver was powered? You need to solder a permanent connection to the diode before applying any power. Disconnecting/connecting the diode while power is applied will kill both...

[SOLVED] DvdRW laser diode not burning?

Re: { UPDATED }DvdRW laser diode not burning? You don't get mW from mA. If you want to know the diode's power, you have to measure the output using a laser power meter. You can't calculate it.

[SOLVED] DvdRW laser diode not burning?

Re: { UPDATED }DvdRW laser diode not burning? You don't. You only need to worry about outputting a correct current from the driver into the diode. The driver automatically adjusts output voltage as needed by the diode.

[SOLVED] DvdRW laser diode not burning?

Re: { UPDATED }DvdRW laser diode not burning? Well basically DVD burner diodes can be of two types, short and long die. Short die diodes only come in short can package. Like I stated before, these only output around 100mW max. Long die diodes can come in long can, or open can package. These...

[SOLVED] DvdRW laser diode not burning?

Re: { UPDATED }DvdRW laser diode not burning? 2.2 Ohms is 550mA of output, which is somewhat "conservative" for an Oclaro diode. I recommend 800mA via this driver: 18V 5W Circuit Board w/ Cree for Flashlights (16.8mm*5.5mm) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme What diode are you driving currently...

[SOLVED] DvdRW laser diode not burning?

Re: { UPDATED }DvdRW laser diode not burning? Please use this simplified schematic for LM317 or LM1117 driver in the future: If you reduced your potentiometer to 0 ohms, resulting in 3.3 ohms total resistance, your total current should be, by Ohms law: 1.25 Amperes / 3.3 Ohms = 0.378 Amperes...

[SOLVED] DvdRW laser diode not burning?

Re: DvdRW laser diode not burning? What is the "driver circuit" that you made? What are you using to power it? What's the schematic of the driver? What's the desired output current? Do you have a multimeter, have you tried using a test load on the driver first? How is the diode extracted...

Need advice on multi diode setup :)

Sounds like a brutal amount of work. I never really had patience for stuff like that. Well, do feel free to shoot me a personal message if you want any help with electronics and laser setup. I'll do my best to help you out.

Need advice on multi diode setup :)

I for one want to see this project completed and operational :) As far as I know, fully working palm lasers have only been made by AnselmoFanZero, and those were single-diode setups. If you manage to build a multi-diode palm laser, that'll be amazingly impressive. Not to mention how awesome...

Resources for designing constant current drivers

No kidding? Popular little chip. Pinless ones (aka BGA package) are impossible to solder conventionally, but I recommend getting the 5-pin ones like shown in my schematic. It's been a long while since I put together a boost driver. Then again I've been building very sparsely, anyway...

Resources for designing constant current drivers

Yes. However if you have a case neutral diode, such as 445nm diodes, it doesn't matter since technically the laser diode isn't connected to the case at all. I have frequently used case pin for negative driver input in blue builds.

Resources for designing constant current drivers

Well basically it boils down to the knowledge of all the chips designed for constant current output that there currently are. Once you know that, for example, LM1117 can be used for constant current driver, you look up it's data sheet to find out template schematics and it's properties. I have...

    Blue Laser 1000MW - 450nm - PROBLEM

Well for starters I would recommend NOT doing that! So wait, did you try to insert batteries and make contact with something metal, instead of tailcap? Did the laser light up? I recommend first using Multimeter to measure voltage of your all your batteries after they've been charged, see if...

    Blue Laser 1000MW - 450nm - PROBLEM

Sounds like you just have impossibly bad luck and got 3 dud pairs of batteries in a row. It's not a problem with the laser as far as I can tell from here, if it was it would never light up, no matter what batteries. I suggest getting a quality pair of 16340 batteries, a brand like Sanyo or IW...

    Ebay "Thor" Laser

"Carefully but not really" LOL, you got an awesome writing style. Should do more reviews :D Ontopic, Well you can't really miss much with 445nm diodes - they only go as low as 1W in declared output, so it's really the guaranteed minimum power, no matter what the laser costs (as long as it...

    New Additions - Sinner - V1 & Phobos , MS-Envy's and more..

Oh yes! I knew the designs for Phobos were far better off in sinner's hands, the copper insert suggests a lot of interior re-design waaay above my skill level and machining capabilities. Do you have any ideas for the pricing yet?
