Laser diode wont work with certain power supplies

Fickle isn't the word for green lasers. I can drive 445's on LED drivers with a bit of care. Greens? Still haven't figured those out. Phase of moon needs to be calculated in there as well. About a month ago I pulled apart Chinese projector where the green wasn't running and tossed the diode...

    Noob Question about concert Lasers

Since this is Pink Floyd and not some local band I assume we're not talking about a 10mw Chauvet laser. I would assume we're talking about a laser in the 5-20 watt range. Some years ago Paramount had a touring Pink Floyd tribute laser show, and I caught it every year. First, the music was cool...

    Timer for Duty Cycle

Dumb question, but doesn't putting a switch between the diode and supply cause more harm than just leaving it on? If anything, I'd rather power cycle the supply off and on, if at all. If you think about this diodes in DVD burners run at 150-200mW, and are in a pretty terrible thermal...

    The Accused - Aiptasia sp.

Tried using my 1watt 445 constant run on aiptasia, and all it does is cause the aiptasia to retreat in the rock. Vinegar or Muriatic acid in a syringe works better. You just have to get enough in them before they retreat so they burn. Peppermints won't touch large aiptasia.

    My Official Thread of Resignation

About 5 years ago I started building my own LED fixtures and burned up enough Crees to substitute them as poker chips at any Vegas Casino. Got expensive real fast, but I learned enough about thermal inrush potential and driver design that I can replicate pretty much any commercial fixture for a...

Help with dogs and cats around lasers

100-200mw lasers are not dangerous around animals unless you're some idiot who enjoys shining it in their eyes. Last time I checked human being were also animals as well. You're just looking for a reason to make lasers sound more extrodinary than they are which is a chronic issue here. A bic...

How to Make Fog Without a Fog Machine For better beam viewing. "Cheap & Easy for All"

Re: How to Make Fog Without a Fog Machine For better beam viewing. "Cheap & Easy for Glycerine and commercial fog mixes *ARE* mostly water out of the jug. The 1:15 ratio was also something I confirmed using a hydrometer and an initial measurement of commercial fog mixes. However, the later are...

Help with dogs and cats around lasers

I volunteer for a couple no-kill animal shelters with a few hundred free roaming cats, and laser pointers are a necessity for excercise. Some cats ignore pointers and prefer tactile things like strings and rope while others will pursue the magic dot until they physically fall over from...

How to Make Fog Without a Fog Machine For better beam viewing. "Cheap & Easy for All"

Re: How to Make Fog Without a Fog Machine For better beam viewing. "Cheap & Easy for I'm the lighting technician for several large venues, and can confirm professionally that glycerine mixes not only work, they work better than commercial fog mixes. Haze mixes are a different discussion, but...

O-like's 400mw Green is back in town!

What qumefox said. O-like is obviously getting them from somewhere, and whatever factory is selling them likely doesn't care who buys.

    Dangers of amperage

Most of the posts above have filled the gaps in, but the truth is that current (amps) voltage and even frequency need to meet sufficient criteria to be dangerous. Electricity needs to have sufficient voltage to penetrate our somewhat resistive skin, have enough current to saturate nerves (or...

    Lens?

Maybe I'm missing something but when I power my 445 at 350mA -vs- 700mA the visible difference is huge. According to the chart it would be neglibible in terms of mW out the front.

LED drivers / concerns or opinions?

AC powred LED driver functionality has been confirmed baby!!!!!!! I got a 445 from Danglasers today and just finished wiring it up. I used two AC powered LED drivers. The first was a 24volt / 350mA LightTech driver. The second was a 48volt 700mA MeanWell. The MeanWell is a brute - it will pop...

What do you use your lasers for?

Well, for one I design and built my own high powered LED fixtures for reef tanks, night clubs, etc. Laser based fixtures are next. It also helps I volunteer for two animal shelters with about 150 free roaming cats between the two. You have no idea what it's like to walk into a room with 35...

LED drivers / concerns or opinions?

Hey guys, thanks for all the tips. I have a 445 on order from DangLasers, and am going to try it out on various reputable LED drivers ranging from 350mA to an adjustable MeanWell 48D that goes up to 1.4amps. I'm talking to some electronic geeks more versed in the minor nuances of current...

LED drivers / concerns or opinions?

I hear what you're saying, but 'proven LD driver ' is a bit of an ambiguous term. This can refer to a $5.00 driver in parts, or $5,000, and I'm trying to get at the functional difference between LD driver and LED driver and how each one differs other than the former claiming to do a better job...
