I had a look on Ebay a while ago but they are not 'small' i.e. they are all 40x40mm or so. I was after 10x10mm square.

Yes, the original is gone but there is another now. The output is measured on an accurate laser power meter cr123 batteries don't fit this host. The module operates on a single li-ion battery so two cr123 would provide too much voltage. The 14500 is a very good battery with long run time and...

Only if its a multimode c-mount die. Which often they are, but there is nothing inherent to the c-mount architecture which means it will be multimode and need fast axis correction (FAC)
