DO you have the serial protocol for the AA or software? I have a friend who needs that.. He has 3 AA that he needs to adjust... Steve

    New toy in the lab.. 850mJ Nd:YAG w/532nm, 266nm, 213nm Harmonic generators

Quote "LIOB is pretty cool to see when combined with a microlens array.. looks like a floating hologram" Oh, Why didn't I think of that one... :-) Argh.... Steve

OK to gently clean the coated faces only, with a swab or tissue using high purity, dry, alcohol. If there is grease, one quick pass with a minimal amount of acetone. Again, high purity chemicals only. NO water, No ammonia based lens cleaners. One pass per face and call it a day... I hate...

    New user, laser score!

You have incoherent plasma light from the arc. If the tube is still decent you might get weak lasing all the way down to idle. Medical devices, by law, have a mechanical shutter or two or three shutters depending on the device and its function. So yes, there is a tiny solenoid shutter in there...

The difference between Linewidth and Bandwidth in laser

Whoops, I just responded to a 2016 Thread.. Dang "suggested" posts... Steve

The difference between Linewidth and Bandwidth in laser

Start researching using the terms Etalon, ECDL laser and DFB laser You place a carefully designed temperature tuning system and some diffraction grating feedback around the diode. For the very narrow linewidth your describing, you possibly lock the diode current to an atomic adsorption system...

    New user, laser score!

It has "kill Green" mirrors on the tube. You get blue, violet, and a bit of green at higher currents if the tube is healthy. So dont expect the usual 300-350 mW from a fresh Reliant from this puppy.. After all, it was for curing blue sensitive photopolymers.. Green light inhibited the curing...

    New toy in the lab.. 850mJ Nd:YAG w/532nm, 266nm, 213nm Harmonic generators

3H is sum frequency mixing of 1064 with 532. First crystal converts 1064 to 532 while being detuned or beam split to pass some 1064. Second crystal mixes them to produce a modest amount of 355. If the crystals are cut at the correct orientation, it is quite easy to get 355 going, once you...

gel color filters for DIY safety glasses

Dyes used in gels are known to bleach temporary to clear in the presence of high power laser light. Its a known non-linear phenomena. They can become clear and then opaque in a few nanoseconds. The gel layer often micro-cracks when bent, too. That is the problem of making DIY glasses...

"Hand Held" Supersonic Wind Tunnel, and you probably already own one.

I used to have a big Edmund Optics Schlieren mirror set at work in the other building. I can attest that those are Mach Diamonds.. Steve

    565nm DPSS labby

NO, I had been working on a 16 watt Q-Switched ND (With the rare Type I Non Critically Matched) SHG all day and typed the wrong acronym while tired. It is Yb:SVAP… Steve

    574nm 36 mW Yellow Laser

After reading paper after paper... Turns out the dopant metal has a habit of A. Migrating, and B. forming micro-clusters of raw metal in the crystal, and C. forming F Centers of high adsorption. . If your yellow is dying, as in really dead, move the crystal sideways in the laser and retune the...

    574nm 36 mW Yellow Laser

If it makes you feel better Paul... ND: YAG THAT I KNOW OF, Off the top of my head with a quick look up.. And there are more with very low gain... But 1064.1 Has far more gain then the rest and generally swamps them by depleting an upper level. BTW, The 1064 nm line bandwidth is about 1.3 nm...

    574nm 36 mW Yellow Laser

Two of ours exhibited quick hops to green while warming up. They then mode hopped, and we could watch the yellow climb in wavelength a few nanometers per second until it stabilized. The other started at one yellow wavelength and stayed there. This was observed on a B&W Spectrometer and with...

    Recent advances in self-frequency-doubling crystals

I knew what it was last summer with a high confidence. . The problem being I did not want a gazillion people trying to buy a medium that was not working well. Or suggest the wrong medium. At least from one vendor. Besides, without the orientation angles for cutting the crystal, it is pretty...
