    The 6 X Blu-Ray Club - ....Now 209mW's!

Re: The 6 X Blu-Ray Club - 130mW's... Schweet! I would not be at all surprised if the plastic gets hazy from the 405nm.  I'm amazed at what this laser does for fluorescense - it's really not even UV! I just took my unit and lit up a bunch of plastics I have around the house.  Most were...

    The 6 X Blu-Ray Club - ....Now 209mW's!

Re: The 6 X Blu-Ray Club - 130mW's... Schweet! Jay - yes I saw that.... but I had sucess just by turning the element around - no need to file. Does that make any sense?????

    The 6 X Blu-Ray Club - ....Now 209mW's!

Re: The 6 X Blu-Ray Club - Schweet! I have a couple of comments here - both of which I am not sure about but I throw them in for the more experienced folks to ponder.  1st - on focusing the Meridith lens: when I first assembled my unit I found it nearly impossible to focus close enough to the...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

LOL - I bet your iguana likes it!  Reptiles use UVB to warm up; that's why they sell those "Blue" actinic reptile fluoresent bulbs for sunning. 405nm is just above the UV spectrum.  If you look at a wave length chart for these LDs you'll see that they span from 400nm to 410nm - but none of it...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Mike - prb'ly won't fool with that... sounds dangerous. Milos - thx! It was fun, now I'm lookin' for something else to do - anyone know of a SW laser??? LOL

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Yeah - the box said it was 16x (just read it).... Hmmm... maybe I should hook up the IR too. There's a thing called photon scatter (or something like that). I know a guy who takes a TV remote control to UV shows and zaps rocks with it. Sometimes they'll flash (in the dark) from being hit by IR....

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Mike - where are you?  Maybe I can steer you to some rocky areas.  Any scorpions in your neck of the woods?  (they'll glow too).  PM me your address and I'll throw a couple pieces in the mail for ya - it's really quite interesting to see what this laser does. One of the very surprising things...

    Cheap Blu-Ray PS3 Laser Deck

I ran across this while surfing for another 6x Blu-Ray; thought folks might be interested. It's a "PS3 KES-400A Laser lens" assembly for $29.90 plus $2.00 shipping (airmail) to the USA (qty 5 - $33.00 qty 1). Appears that it has the Violet LD and seems a good source for folks wanting to...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Just thought of a neat accessory for Blu-Ray lasers - Franklin calcite. The laser is so powerful that you can "draw" on the rock with it. It leaves tracks of your lines as you move (actually phosphorescense). It's cheap - you can pick it up in Franklin NJ for $1/LB. Or find some cheap on ebay in...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Hey Switch Not off-topic for me :) - glad to discuss.... The Hoya glass is only available (new) from Hoya, and much like our diodes, they don't want to deal with the end-user, and they charge an arm/leg. It costs about $4/sq in and of course is available in large sheets. How big a piece do you...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

One final pic showing the power difference between the PS3 diode and the LG 6X diode.  This was taken with both of my lasers directed onto a piece of calcite.  The calcite glows a reddish orange color under UV.   The dot to the right (small, blue) is the laser with the PS3 diode.  The bright...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Same rock litup by the laser. This laser is so trong that it makes the sodalite glow a vivid orange, but you can see the violet spill-over onto the non-fluorescent areas of the rock, as well as the paper.

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Just as an example of fliter LEDs - this is a pic I took of sodalite under the UV LEDs in my Laser assy. The background is a piece of white paper (also fluorescent) thus you see the blue glow from the paper. But note how the rock is a nice pure orange (compared to the photo earlier in this...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Any wavelength under 400nm is supposed to be invisible.  In a perfect world this would be true - but alas, we live in a unperfect world.  *All* UV LEDs output light in the visible spectrum - that's the dull violet glow you see.  If it were pure 395nm (and of course below) you would not see any...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Not sure what filter y'all are talking about.  My filter on my unit is a UV pass filter - but ONLY for the LEDs.  The LD passes out the hole in the middle.  TO my knowledge there is no filter inside the diode (other than a window with anit-reflective coating). These laser diodes put out 405nm...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

I just had an afterthought.... (this means "after" I completed my builds). The Blu-Ray diode, either the low power PS3 or even the high-power 6x produces a beam which is very hard to see when focused at distant objects which are dark (non-fluorescent).  Probably does not matter for most folks...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Jay - this is the cheaper one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Red-Laser-395-nM-5-UV-LED-10-White-LED-Flashlight-Torch_W0QQitemZ320228601448QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320228601448 The UV LEDs are 395nm, but you should be able to get it for $10 shipped.... Mike - thanks! Mark

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Hi Jay The silver piece unsrews, as does the wider diameter neck from the "body" - you end up with three pieces (plus the end cap for the batteries.  It has a "3 AAA" battery carrier inside.  The switch is actually a four position rotary pushbutton.  Each push acitvates one of three poles (the...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

Thanks Jay! The host is a laser/led light sold on Ebay - $10 incl shipping. Ledwholesalers is the seller. It has a red LD and 15 LED in the head, but I just stripped them out and replaced with my own components. The black glass surrounding the LD is a special filter glass which passes UV and...

Blu-Ray 6x plus UVA LEDs fluorescense

And this is how the beam looks on a rock at high noon outside. The pic on the left is sodalite which is glowing a bright orange. On the right is a non-fluorescent area of the rock; all you see is a faint violet dot. My camera is sensitive to this bright dot and shows it much brighter than it...
