    Switching vs. Linear LED drivers

Thanks alot! That answered my question exactly. +rep for the great explanation

    Switching vs. Linear LED drivers

Whats the difference between boost and buck... I've been a tad lost on that, I'm guessing the boost drives boost up the voltage to the required voltage and the buck drives don't? Idk if you would know what would happen if you joined a buck and boost in parallel(sp), (other than there would be...

    Switching vs. Linear LED drivers

Im still a little new to laser technology but from what i've read previously, linear drivers are more stable... if I'm wrong someone here with more knowlege will correct me,

    new & ready to learn

Yeah, I have found that out the hard way lol I recently friend a cheap little red one set for 250mw but I wasnt paying attention when my friend hooked up a 9v battery to it and the driver couldnt regulate the voltage down low enough to keep it protected. I cant vouch for anyone else's host...

    new & ready to learn

Welcome to LPF! I'm recently new here too, and I've already been provided with helpful information. I've learned so much within the past month thanks to the people in this forum community. What I like about best from this forum site is everyone here pushes safety before anything, I hope you...

    Damnit, Another One Down

The benefits to using alcohal over distilled water, if you accidentally added a little to much alcohal when cleaning it will evaporate faster than water making the drying time significantly less, and less risky of using an aid to dry it your self with an abrasive surface.

    The case pin.....

Alrighty thanks, I appreciate the help.

    The case pin.....

Thanks for the great explanation, I had always wondered why the case pin had to be connected to the negative in some builds and why you didnt need to in others.. is it just in good practice to do this all the time or can it cause problems when not needed?

    The case pin.....

Okay, I'm trying to do my homework before I make an attempt at a 445nm build; so I've been looking around the forum, and I cant quite find the answer that I'm looking for. On the 445nm diodes I've read that you have to cross the case pin over to the neg pin; but I've also read this is not...

I want to buy a blue laser...

My first laser build was a 250mw Red one but before I even joined this forum I had been interested in lasers, so I bought one of those green ebay lasers... of course when someone else was using it the would try to hit birds out of the window with it(just shows even some people in their mid 20's...

Water has impurities use 90%+ rubbing alcohal so it doesnt leave water marks

    445nm Advice Please

Welcome (^_^) I just recently made my first build 250mW red, saddly when i wasnt paying attention my friend took a 9v battery and hooked it up... fried the diode within 5 minutes :'( 2 weeks worth of waiting and $40 for the driver and diode just burned out. Good thing diodes are relatively...

    445nm Advice Please

Thats what I figured, though I've herd linear drivers are more stable in the long run, But I just sent Jayrob a payment for a host so my second build is in progress. I just finished my 250mW red build though I have no idea what the voltage is for the red diodes to power it are I have been told...

What you can do (and fiber optic technicians do to clean teh ends of the fiber optic cable is use 99.99% alcohal because water has those nasty little impurities in it that leave water spots on your lense)

    Flexdrive/Micro Boostdrive vs linear drivers

Hey Forum, I'm just looking for some input on what your opinions are. Which do you perfer using, Flexdrives or the linear drivers and why? (And I'm doing my first red laser I believe 250mW any powering tips for this laser this is just a simple build to keep me occupied while I wait to build my...

Thanks for correcting me, I wasnt sure how credible the other post I've read was.

445 nm laser diode and driver

From what I have read in a previous post just a few minutes ago you cannot use a DIY LM317 driver for the 1W 445nm diodes

    445nm Advice Please

I'm an amature laser builder I just recently have been interested in building lasers and have been doing alot of studying of lasers. In the future I plan on building a 1W 445nm laser I was just wondering if anyone had advice as how I can go about this (recommended amps volts and well of course...
