They are inside a metal housing that has a photodiode feedback sensor, thermistor and a collimating/expanding lens...

Yes, it will lase without you taking it apart, it just takes a while to warm up. Also, the laser has Some small scratches on the outside of the housing

ok, I’ll send some pictures of the 589nm pen, if you align the Crystals right, you can get some higher powers (10-15mw) out of it ( not in TEM00) and with maybe a bit of fiddling around with it, you might be able to Get 10mw in TEM00!
