I would have to say that any laser capable of lighting a cigarette and being eye safe would negate the reason for using a laser to light a cigarette to begin.It would in the end be a Rube Goldberg type contraption.

I feel like arguing about the safeness of a laser lighter is analog to arguing about filter length on cigarettes.

I wholeheartedly agree that it is not a great idea and I say as much whenever I show it to someone .But imho it is still a damn cool lighter!

Maybe I should add that the flashlight I used has a programmable driver that will only lase with a certain sequence of button pushes. Just pushing the button on will on give you a dim led effect .you have to know the sequence to get it full power .The few people I have let handle it usually...

Streamlight pro tac 90 +nubmo8 blue laser diode + chunk of brass for heat sink .I use mine to light cigarettes and pipes easily.I drill out one eye in the brass skull and imbed the laser diode which gives me a nice little hole to put the end of my cigarette in .I do carry a lease wipe to clean...

I just read something about Tdcs or low voltage neuroelectro stimulation and had a thought that maybe lasers do something similar.But even if this is proven incorrect I did have to learn a lot to be able to build a laser so it can still be considered a true statement.lol

I prefer to use indium when I have it .I have also used a high temp heat transferring gasket compound of what I believe is copper infused silicone that I buy from autozone.It’s like a copper colored silicone caulk with high viscosity.

Sounds like maybe the diode emits both visible 650nm /660nm and maybe an infra red wavelength.If so I hope you are not staring into the diode when it emits the dim light .It may actually be producing a high power invisible IR beam that can do damage to your eyes without you even realizing it.
