    Post Your GUN (PICS)

Ohio has always (since it's beginning) allowed open carry of firearms. Recently in the last few years they've allowed concealed carry as well. FYI, "gauge" is the multiplicative-inverse of a lead sphere's size as the fraction of a pound. For example, a solid 12 gauge lead ball weighs 1/12th...

    Possible cheap host? $1.39 ebay

Alright, so I was poking around dealextreme and I found a driver, Q5 emitter and aluminum reflector that would fit into this $1.39 host. It'll cost about $8 to upgrade the little guy to the Q5 meaning I could drive it up to 1000mA. Plus, if I get a 14mm emitter disc I can machine a proper...

how to... reduce the mRAD of a laser?

It depends on the application. For example, lets assume a 1.5mrad beam with 3mm diameter at aperture. At 10 meters the dot/beam will be 15mm in diameter. At 100 meters the dot/beam will be 150mm in diameter. Now put that same laser through a 10X expander and you will have a 30mm beam at...

I PM'ed him a bit ago to buy two as well... he's probably a very busy guy so I'm not two worried. PontiacG5 is da man!

    Post Your GUN (PICS)

I'm not a fan of beretta/tarus pistols. I think the beretta cheetahs and pocket guns are dandy... but other than that the 9mm taurus/beretta pistols are bulky & heavy for what they are. The grips are obtrusively fat and capacity is only satisfactory for a full size pistol. For the size, I'd...

Why not drill them out for use on modules as heatsinks or use with 532 modules? By the way, I'll take one or two of the oversize heads if the price is reasonable.

No license required... just a $200 excise tax. Cleaning (of the silencer) IS REQUIRED though. :D You wouldn't believe how dirty a suppressor makes a gun too... blows a bunch of crap back into the gun and magazine. That glock probably has well over 2000 rounds without cleaning. I carry it...

Kenom/pontiacg5... What oring dash number fits in the grooves on the head of a Kryton Groove? I'm going to use blue cordstock and blue orings on my groove.

Why do people call 635nm orange?

It simply puts out raw spectra. Lower than about 405 or higher than about 650 and the color sort of fades to black. My eyes can only detect light from about 390 to 680. Any lower or higher and it's just black.

Some question about Wavelength and Wicked Laser S3-Series...

Of course... but I didn't feel the necessity of confusing a new guy (who didn't even know about wavelength) with the duality of light. And it IS also the speed of oscillation. Oscillation speed (frequency) is proportionally related to the wavelength. You can uniquely specify light by frequency...

Why do people call 635nm orange?

Well, I was fooling around with a spectrophotometer... so I was looking at all sorts of "exotic" wavelengths. Literally, you can look at any wavelength from 250-2500 using the machine. It's cool because your eyes really can tell the difference between even as little as 5nm.

Why do people call 635nm orange?

I see in quite a few person's signatures that their 635nm lasers are written in orange lettering. I finally got to see 635nm a day or two ago and I though it was a very crisp red color. Sure, it's a touch lighter than 650... but it was WAY closer to red than to orange. At BEST, it could be...

    I like antistatic brushes, personally.

Some question about Wavelength and Wicked Laser S3-Series...

wavelength is the color of the light... not the beam dimension. Most diode lasers will produce a beam 1mm-4mm in diameter and the dot shape will be square/rectangle. Some red diode lasers will have a round dot though. Often the brightness of a dot will obscure the shape and your eye will just...

    Inexpensive ESD (static) protection.

Excellent info... +1 Wow, this device takes up almost NO room at all. It could be used in even the most compact builds. Can it be placed across the driver outputs as well? That way you only have to heat the LD once in stead of twice. The less the LD is handled and heated the better. How well...
