Trying to find a low divergent green laser

The high power, high-divergence diodes can be improved with additional optics but that adds additional cost among other things. Shmackitup mentioned beam expanders - while they do reduce divergence, they don't actually improve the beam profile, instead, they magnify the beam at the aperture to...

LaserBee 3.7W USB Laser Power Meter

I picked up a new LPM during Jerry's sale and I am very pleased with the addition of this new tool. Thanks, Jerry! @lasersbee I purchased this model for the data logging capability. It's really convenient for keeping records and I really like the ability to make plots of power over time. As...

    NUBM0F WOW....

So it's not just my package that seems to be labeled as "NUBM07." I just received what I hope is a couple true NUBM0F diodes today. This will be my first powerful blue diode. I have too many projects going on and not enough time so it may be a few weeks months years before I finally get around...

    BLACK FRIDAY LPM SALE

Looks like it's time for me to pick up the USB LPM. And maybe the HLPM II as well... I have mostly low power lasers these days and the extra resolution would be nice.

    Innolasers

My last experience with Innolasers was maybe 2 years ago. I've never had problems. If you set your delivery expectations back 15 years, before Amazon next day delivery, you will probably be just fine.

Anyone else like using lasers to eradicate spiders?

My respect for life is nearly universal, with exceptions made for parasites and threats to my well being - ticks, mosquitos, and politicians.

    New exciting drivers coming soon!

Welcome back! I'm interested in 3 of the 400mA boost drivers.

do you put keychain laserpointers on you keys?

My favorite lasers are 50 mW or less (color is more important than power). Honestly, I kinda don't like class IV lasers because I value my eyeballs. But a keychain laser just seems like it should be an abomination.

do you put keychain laserpointers on you keys?

Unfortunately, lasers are inefficient, which means they deplete small batteries very quickly. Any handheld laser powerful enough to be fun is a liability and has few practical uses. Lasers really are useless in daily life and if they weren't so pretty this hobby wouldn't exist. That said, if I...

    1.2W of 489nm, the mighty NDS7175

Very nice. That's a lot of cyan. A diode like that deserves a beam shaping module.

Reasons to custom build a laser

You can build a custom laser for cheap. The total expense will depend on how "sophisticated" you want the build to be and how much of it you can do yourself. Back in the day this was the preferred option because the only way to buy a complete handheld laser with a cool wavelength was from a...

Where are you buying lasers from these days?

Send me a PM if you still can't find a pen laser in 593nm elsewhere. I can make one up for you. I have a spare chrome pen host I can use and a couple 593nm modules on hand. The pen host is a bit scuffed up but I can probably do a quick polish job on it to make it a little prettier. I have a 593...

Yellow Laser finally after 25 years...

How many will mostly depend on cost, so I'll have to wait and see. Likely 3 if I can, more if the price is right. 30 mW sounds nice but I'm assuming these don't include IR filters (based on what I've seen from the other 593, 561, and 570 nm modules). I'll keep an eye out for the thread!

Yellow Laser finally after 25 years...

I'd be very happy to get a few modules in the 570 nm range when they are available. I'm guessing you're referring to modules around 20 mm diameter. These are just fine for me since I'm machining my own hosts these days.

    Z-Bolt 4-5mW 532nm Pointer (model BTG-6-P)

I've always been pleased with my purchases from Z-bolt. These days I usually buy the bare modules but their pointers are good. They do offer a module with better beam centering. It wouldn't be hard to build a pointer with one of those. Unfortunately, because DPSS lasers have many optical...

NUGM06 could be good for over 2W each ???

No, sorry to disappoint. I've been extremely busy and with the summer heat, I haven't been able to finish this project in the shop (No AC in the garage). I'll be sure to share anything I learn, as soon as I can get back on this project.

    The unexpected 593.5

I havent yet seen a measurement of one of these with the infrared filtered out. I have 4 of these modules and most of the output is infrared. I only have filters coated to pass 532 so I can't yet test it myself. My calibrated eyeball says mine produce between 3 and 7 mW of 593 depending on the...

    Class4 607nm Handheld

Excellent work! I bet that orange beam is incredible. This type of laser has been on my list for a long time. Are you doing this out of a home workshop or do you have a professional shop? Whatever the case is, I'm a little jealous - I've barely got room for my mini mill and a handful of other...

WTB HQ 532nm Laser (Dragon, CNI, SKYlasers, Opto, Viasho, Jet, etc.)

For those looking for a high quality 532 nm laser around 100-130 mW, I highly recommend Z-bolt's modules. Their 100 mW aspheric module is really nice. Thin beam, low divergence, stable output, nice construction... really everything you could want from a modern DPSS in the 12mm standard.

    Help with basic optics

This should be easy to accomplish with the components you already have. It's not clear to me what the problem is. Try this (maybe you already have): 0. Check that the camera you are using to view the beam is not distorting or "blooming" the image which could result in measurement error. 1...
