If you are in for proper astronomy pointing, a 5mW is more than sufficient as anywhere with enough light pollution to render a 5mW beam dim will have too much light pollution to do much observation. If you want to, say, point Venus in a Bortle scale 6+ environment, then a 30mW or "100mW"...

Why not get a concentrated E.coli sample and run a UV-Vis spectrum on them?

Dark room <> night. Try doing it at night. All 5mW pointers I have used produced significant beams at night.

Why will one need to change out the leads from the microboost? And what will be your pricing if you are asked to change the leads as well as test the current on it?

Under the main collimating lens assembly, there should be two coils of wire, which actuate the movement of the lens to focus the beam to burn. Near them should be the magnets.

I, for one, keep the magnets after I extract them, and I assume many do too. Small neodymium magnets are fun to play with.

I retract my previous statement... Physiologically (hemoglobin) it sounds plausible enough, that a 50mw green can be felt but a 300mw IR one cannot. But yes, any camera (except those with IR filters) can see the difference easily enough. The 50mw green that I have does not have an IR filter and...

If it was really 300mw, it will immediately feel as hot on the skin. It does not. Even a 50 mw laser can be felt producing a significant amount of heat.
