    Project complete, but issues?

This looks like a more or less normal raw output. Both my 445s have this raw output.

Where do I start? Looking for a programmable show...

Might be a little shady, considering the c&p text regarding 30s duty cycles in the section after the pictures.

    High-Powered 445nm beam in sky

For beaming purposes. If the laser is properly mounted and care taken to ensure nothing significant (trees, airplanes, etc) are in the path, it is considered generally safe to view the beam without goggles. It is otherwise impossible to view a laser beam with goggles on. A bug flying into the...

    Planting straight rows with laser?!

Actually, is the GPS solution really that expensive? What kind of precision do you need? An iphone 4 can reach sub-10m precision easily in city areas, probably better in an open field with more satellites visible. With a laser you have to get a good tripod/possibly a theodolite too, GPS might...

    Sold: NEW 1.3 & 2.2 Watt blue lasers !!

Re: For sale : NEW 1.2W blue lasers, $120 !! Might consider adding that since it is a buck driver, it will only take 2x 16340 and not 1x 18650 as is normally used in torchlights for this host.

Blue laser help... ive got pieces :)

Not sure what you mean by that paragraph. In any case, the "host" linked appeared to be purely a heatsink. If you want a torchlight-style laser, that is not what you want.

Why does the beam end in the sky?

Fully agreed. That is why I disagree that the angular separation is the primary reason the beam stops, being that one of your justifications is that you cannot see the beam become longer, and the counter to that justification has been explained in my post above. I suggest that the beam will...

    Battery help

The output is unlikely to change, assuming your laser used a proper driver. What is important is that the battery is likely to be safer if it is actually a proper brand name battery than some cheap relabel.

Why does the beam end in the sky?

Regarding cyparagon's suggested experiment that somebody take a long exposure to test the PBL hypothesis, I have found the following data: 1: Keck Observatory Laser Guide Star http://keckobservatory.org/images/blog/Cooper-2-lasers-zenith-1.jpg Unfortunately, due to the uploader of this image...

Why does the beam end in the sky?

The picture you gave had no scale. And the link EF posted stated that the PBL could be as low as 100m. In no way is this "1/1000 of a pixel"

    Lego laser host?

You will need a metal heatsink for high power lasers, other than that there is no reason why one cannot make a host using plastic.

    Call me a dumbass but

Not a good idea to put a high powered laser in your pocket with batteries inside, in case it accidentally activates.

Learn From Mistakes That Can Happen To Anybody...

Static electricity can cause the cap to become charged when it touches one of the wires. If this happens frequently the cap may become significantly charged. Shorting it prevents charging due to any reason.

    Chinese laser rifle

The Chinese on the magazine (third line of text on bottom left, the one with the second half being red) says "China Special Ops Police: Laser Dazzler Rifle" Logically speaking, if you had a weapon the size of a rifle, the only benefit to a military unit over that of a conventional rifle will be...

    !!!1W of purple!!! Lighthound 2xAA (14500) 405nm 12X Handheld Minitorch

A nice thick layer of compound is used for maximum bonding & heat transfer Shouldn't the thermal adhesive used be as thin as possible just to cover up all the microscopic gaps in the metals? This is from my experience with desktop CPUs, where a thick layer of thermal paste will have poorer...

Help - Niece wants to set up a laser obstacle course

Assuming your "obstacle course" has multiple lasers, and they are triggerable, probably unrealistic. 5mW pointers should be visible in a perfectly dark room, but if you are looking for detection of beam $50 is probably insufficient.

    A Unique Use for Lasers

I believe most commercial diffraction gratings are made so that the angle of diffraction is far too large to be useful. You are going to hunt them at 100m, so it defeats the purpose if the dots are spread out over a 30m radius.

Blue balloons resistant against blue laser

Try posting a few pictures of your laser here, I am sure the vets can do something.

    A Unique Use for Lasers

A phlatlight, being an LED, will have a significant amount of light below 650nm, which will scare the pigs.
